I am really curious to hear what are some malpractice insurance rates for Podiatrists and Podiatrists that do a lot of surgery.

It is terrifying to hear about OB/GYN's in Florida paying up to 175,000 a year in insurance. Especially since that is more than most podiatrists make in a year. I know it varies by city, state, etc, but I am just looking for a ball park number range. As in within 10 grand.

Also, Is this crisis hitting podiatrists as hard as some of the other types of physicians?

I like everything about podiatry, but am scared about the horror stories of losing half of your salary to insurance.

Malpractice insurance rated depend on geographics, how long you've been in practice, if you've had an litigation and whether you practice full or part time. Most mal practice carriers give discounts to those who have been in practice less than five years.

The average range taking the above into consideration is $7K-$15K annually. If you have questions and want some expert opinions on the matter call a group called PICA. They specialize in Podiatric Malpractice and I'm sure would be more than happy to talk to you about it. Good luck.
