Interdisciplinary team work

I was wondering if any of you can give any examples of how a psychologist can work well on interdisciplinary healthcare teams. I always see references to working well with other professions, but I cannot think of any examples of how this would work.

I'd probably point to speciality in-patient facilities: substance abuse, eating disorder; or maybe a long term rehab facility (something like severe head trauma faciliy)

I'm currently in a behavioral neurology unit; I work with neurologists, psychiatrists, neuropsychiatrists, social workers, and of course neuropsychologists. We have rounds together and everycase is taken from a multidisciplinary perspective. Our unit would not be nearly as successful if it was not run in this manner.

In the past I have been at community mental health centers and here too there can be a successful multidisciplinary model. Especially in a low SES area, having primary care and mental health under the same roof can enable more people to take advantage of mental health services. If you can't afford a ride to the doctor's office several timeas a week, one stop shopping makes it easier to get the help you need.

In the UK. a clinical psychologist specialising in mental-health may be working in a community mental-health team consisting of - psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, GP doctor, community psychiatric nurses, occupational therapists, social workers and support workers.

The multi disciplinary team will work together, have regular team meetings and share information when needed.

The community mental-health team will also work with other outside agencies including voluntary services, the police, schools, primary care, employment services, benefit services................the list goes on!
