Hmm...You're not new, but this kind of question wreaks of not doing one's homework.

Not trying to be mean, but there are many resources for this type of question.

P.S. After you do your homework, and you should, you may still not have a rock solid answer to your question. What you must realize is how competitive you are will vary because it is multifactorial. So, it's not like __Step 1 score + ___ SLORs + __ grades gets you into insert subjectively competitive EM program, i.e. it's not algorithmic. However, after doing some reading you will have greater perspective.

This is what my associate PD said:

"220-240, we love that. Above 240... maybe the guy's too smart."

Take from that what you will.

That's an interesting caveat. However, this is what drives me crazy about this process. The goal is to score as high as you can to be an attractive applicant, but you have a point. I just wanna start interviewing so I can know where I stand.

And, it also makes it hard for those of us with borderline Step 1 scores (215-219) and above average Step 2 scores (250+) know which one people are going to focus on!

any words of advice on which programs to apply to as a student who passed with a below-average score on a second attempt? meaning, which ones may be more likely to overlook the fact that i've failed step 1 on the first attempt? the rest of my application is decent, and has several bright spots, particularly in comments doctors i've worked with left in my evaluations and the fact that i've got some prior life experience in a couple completely different fields before medical school.
