Just wondering if anyone on these forums is interested in investment. This could be in real estate or even in the pharmaceutical sector. Or does everyone just spend their cash on food, booze, cars and squander the rest?

there's been several informative threads on investments around. what do you propose for those of us who are?

Just trying to gauge the level of interest and involvement on these forums. Do the people here invest purely in equities or does it stretch to fixed-income instruments, currencies and commodities too? Is it country or sector specific?
Buffetology vs Eenie Meenie?

Pretty much everyone's getting into investing these days. The era of the financial ******* MD is long over.

I tend to like energy, defence and real estate. I also own zeros, metals and some Berkshire Hathaway. I'm mixed between individual stocks and sector funds. For the most part I try to invest in sectors that I actually find interesting. That way researching them is enjoyable.

Energy, pharma, tech, but lookin' at stocks with nice dividends.

I have inquired about starting a invetment/business forum. We'll await the decision of the senior/administrative moderators.

I have found a broad range of investment types on this forum, so hopefully we can separate the threads. However, we must always take caution, since there are no right or wrong ways to invest.
We also need to make sure non-doctors soliciting business are kept off the threads.
Give it a couple weeks.
Thanks

That's great. Thanks. I'd find that really useful. 👍

I don't think a separate forum is needed. Perhaps the title of the Med/Business forum could be changed to Med/Business/Investing.

What I'm afraid will happen is a bunch of people will start offering stock tips, etc. Any savvy investor does his or her own research instead of blindly following the tips of others. I highly recommend subscribing to something such as Morningstar.com and making use of their stock screeners.

As far as I've seen, the investment threads on this forum basically consist of people sharing info on research materials and books about investment. I havn't yet seen any "stock tips". A forum for sharing personal financial experiences from, bank charges, and loan information to retirement savings and how to actually go about setting up a roth IRA would be extremely helpful.

This is exactly the kind of good advice that could be shared in an investment/finances forum. Of course there are plenty of places to get as much information and better advice than on morningstar without paying a fee. Those are the sort of things that would likely to be discussed in an investment forum.

With tight moderating, we will not allow it to go off into stock tips.
It will be separated and focused on the key areas.

Several people want it, and there is much more to learn than investing.

It is the doctors weakest link.

I don't think there is enough need to generate a separate forum for investing.

The current med business forum can be changed to Med/Business/Investing.

We can't have a forum for every topic.

1. Yes, there is enough interest. Pay attention to the number of investing threads in this forum.

2. The Med Business forum would be a very bad place to discuss investing. That forum is all about education - a specific education pathway - MBA plus whatever other medical specialty. There is no actual financial content in that forum.

3. No we can't have a forum for every topic, but for a general area of interst like finance/investing that generates so many topics, a seperate forum would be valuable.

I just searched the investing threads created over the last year. One topic about investing every 6 weeks is hardly enough to create a separate forum.

You bring a good point with issue 3. Perhaps the Finance forum could be changed to Finance/Investing. It would be more appropriate to discuss investing issues in the Finance/Investing forum instead of the Med/Business forum.
