You should probably look into lab animal postdoctoral training programs. MIT's is heavily research-oriented (and mostly microbiology, as well). Missouri, CSU, Johns Hopkins, and a few others offer research training for graduate veterinarians, some even up to the PhD level.

Positions are often posted on the ASLAP website, on CompMed (an e-mail listserv administered through AALAS), in the lab animal journals (Comparative Medicine and JAALAS), etc. Many applications are due around October 1, so now is the time to start getting application materials together.
