Hello there,
I have been applying to UfT pharmacy for the past three years. I have gotten rejected three times...I guess I one of the normal ones....... I was wondering does anybody know the gpa cut off or gpa average for students that got into UBC pharmacy school for out of province students. I called the Admissions Officier at the school and they were really vague and said things like....I will email u the website and everything is listed on the website. Well, I can check the website myself and I read it...may I missed something but there is nothing really specific to out of province students. I read there is no quota for out of province students. So basically my question is:
Do out of province students really get in?
What is their average for the courses they considered like?
What is their PCAT score like?

Any other help would be great,

Thanks

Hey Canucks and everyone else reading my thread,

So even students outside of the province got in with a 78-80%. Are u out of the province? Don't u need a higher GPA and PCAT score to get in as an out of province student? Also, if you are a student already at UBC pharmacy......is their alot of ppl from out of province. I am from Ontario

Thanks

The official word is that "preference is given to well qualified residents of British Columbia". Having said that, it is safe to assume that you'll need a slightly higher GPA/PCAT/overall application to compete as an OOP student. Sorry, can't give you stats or anything...going off of the UBC '12 facebook group, there is at least one OOP student from Guelph Ont.

What other schools are you considering applying to? Have you considered the Maritime schools (Dalhousie and MUN)? I was accepted as an OOP student at MUN, despite the fact that there are only 4 OOP spots.

Hey no I have not tried the maritimes...I am considering if its worth it with my grades....Actually here are my grades what do u think for UBC abd DAL and Saketchewan.......

The lady at DAL told me that my calculus was not good enough and they would mark that.

Here are my grades
First year Bio course 1: 71%
First year Bio course 2: 79%
First year Chem course 1: 70%
First year Chem course 2: 80%
First half of organic chemistry: 81%
Second half or orgo: have not completed yet..will complete
Microbiology: 78%
physiology I: 80%
physiology II: 77%
Stats I: 86%
Stats II: 91%
Calculus I: 65&
Calculus II: 66%
English I : 75%
EnglishII: have not complete yet..will complete
Anantomy: 88%
Physics: 78%

I haven't done the PCAT, I am deciding if it is worth it for me even to do it. If my GPA doesn;t even meet the UBC requirement, then there is no point.

The average of th 15 courses I have completed (17 are listed) is a 77.66666% When I estimate realistically that maybe I could get an 80% in both English and Chemistry...the average is 77.94..basically a 78%.

What do u think? Can an out of province (from Ontario) get in with a mid 77% or do u think this is too low?

I also included the second half of Stats in my calcuation....I am not sure if both will count to my GPA. Which one will be counted

Are any other courses, other than the ones I have listed that could be prereqisites. What about Histology and Cell Biology and Animal Physiology...I have two histology courses.

I know for Dalhousie and Sasketchewan...the requirements to get in are different...

If anybody knows anything....let me know
Thanks

I have marks similar to yours (and got rejected from UofT as well) I have 1 C and others are A's and B's. So my overall avg. is 78% now after 2nd year. What university are you in right now? Did you try looking into the US schools, University of Alberta, etc? I can't apply to the US mainly because I haven't taken Physics yet.

tina9, you might as well do the pcat because u of t requires it now. As for determining your %, I think UBC will use all of your courses except the 2nd stats course because the rest are either pre-reqs or first year courses.

I'm from Ontario and I was accepted with average 86.9 (class average was 79.8), PCAT 86 (class average 89), and interview score 90 (class average 83). I don't know the stats for other out-of-province students, but I think beating the average GPA is key to getting an interview.

Whoa thats a high average....yah...I dont think I will be accepted at UBC...for sure and I actually know another person who prerequisite avg and PCAT score is fairly high...mine won't go higher than 80...I know that....this sucks....

I think I am just going to do the PCAT during the Jan session because if I do it I still have a chance at UFT. pharmacy school is so hard to get into...to those you got in...you guys are really lucky! esp if you are a Canadian that got into a Canadian school! (from one canadian to another) B/c there are so many benefits...guys I am so ticked off right now....I dont even think I will get into UFT......but its worth a shot!

Hey Lan....I would check schools in NY and Boston as they are close to toronto...however they are extremely expensive relative to Canadian schools. My advice...check all the schools and go with the one that you believe that you have a chance at and can afford...b/c state school are dangerously expensely..so try getting into Canadian ones first

Thanks everyone and if anyone has more insight just post!

Thanks again

I know ppl who got in with high 60's and low 70's GPA-but that was because they are BC residents. If you have family members who live in BC-what you can do is use their address as your contact address then you will have a very good shot at getting in (as long as you do good on your PCAT ofcourse-which doesn't have to be great-mid 70's and above should guarantee you an interview). Then after that 50:50. Good luck
