I plan on using Interfolio to collect letters of recommendation. I plan on applying two years from now. It is unclear to me if Interfolio is a free service or not? From my understanding, it is free to store the letters but costs money to send the letters out to each school. Do I have that correct? If so, what is the price exactly? I have seen different numbers.

My other concern is that since I am applying two years down the line, will medical schools perhaps change their guidelines and not allow a third-party service such as Interfolio to collect LoRs? I know this is the case for graduate school applications. At least some of them will not accept letters from Interfolio, even if you waive your rights to view the letter. Is there currently any medical schools that give you an issue if you use Interfolio (MD and DO)?

Any other things I should know about Interfolio? I want to ask my letter writers for recommendations ASAP while I am still fresh in their mind.

I was also thinking in the event I am rejected and have to reapply, I could reuse some of the letters without having to go through that awkward conversation of "so I got rejected at all the schools I applied to last year, can you write me another letter and go through the process of sending this letter to schools again" lol
I haven't done it yet, but it looks pretty self explanatory. It looks like, at least today, you can send from Interfolio to AMCAS, and from there to the schools, so you won't have to worry about individual school policies as long as AMCAS still accepts them. No one here can tell you with certainty what will happen in the future, but it seems like a safe bet that this isn't going to change in the near future without warning. It looks like it will cost you $48/yr when you need to use it for deliveries. That includes up to 50 deliveries, but, if I'm reading it right, you would only use to make one delivery to AMCAS.

Interfolio is widely used and recognized so I don't expect it to go away any time soon. They $48 includes a validation service wherein once your letters have been uploaded by the writers, there is a service performed to verify they are signed, on letterhead, etc. I did not know this initially. From what I've seen, it's a good way to go if you're doing individual letters.
