Hi guys,

I am using Interfolio to send my letters of recommendation. Should I send them all together in one package to each school, or should I instruct Interfolio to send each letter separately to each school?

Thanks.

package...unless you need to get them asap, and you are waiting on extra letters

Can you say "logistical nightmare?" Send a package and be sure to upload a cover page for the package that includes your name, social security number, amcas id, and an explanation that these are confidential letters from interfolio for your application to medical school. 🙂

Is Interfolio a service offered through one's school? Or is it a service one seeks on his/her own? I'm trying to decide whether or not I should use my alma mater's pre-med office, but I'm not exactly a "preferred" applicant in my dean's eyes. In that case, I'd rather not go through her, and I'd rather not include her committee letter (she is the committee). Did you use Interfolio by choice or because you don't have a pre-med office available? Are you finding Interfolio relatively easy to work with?

SHE is the committee....the story of my life 😀

I have heard that if your school has a pre-med committee, that you should not outsource any letter services. Reason is that odds are they have had applicants from your school before... and odds again favor that those applicants used the pre-med committee... and the adcomms will question why you didn't use it. Just a heads up for those who are debating on using a premed committee or not, but for those who have no choice, then by all means it's a great service.

Interfolio is a great service for those whose schools don't provide a letter service. I was a little worried too on whether or not it would raise a red flag for schools, but nobody said anything. No way could I imagine asking all of my LOR writers to mail off 9-12 different letters.

One BIG tip though for those who are seriously considering going to their state school- don't use interfolio for that school or schools. Just give your letter writers two SASE, one for interfolio and one specifically for your state school. Some state schools probably wouldn't like seeing that an applicant is using a service like interfolio because that would imply they are applying to 6+ schools. Certainly not a big deal for someone from a state like california or NY where there are numerous state schools and people apply to lots of out of state schools too, but I wouldn't want some state schools with a specific mission statement(Mercer, ECU, etc) to know that I'm applying to tons of schools.
