Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to hear some opinions on using interfolio for letters of recommendation. I never knew what it was until today. It seems to be ideal as far as organizing all your letters goes. I had one question... will every school accept letters that were submitted to aadsas through interfolio? I was looking at Midwestern's requirements and it says, "All letters of evaluation must be submitted directly from the evaluators. The Office of Admissions will not accept letters submitted by students." I wasn't sure what to take from this. Ultimately if you use interfolio, at some point, the student has to get the letters submitted to aadsas right? Does this violate Midwestern's request?

Thanks.

I used interfolio... midwestern AZ and IL were two schools I applied to. I was invited for an interview for AZ...

That thing about:
"All letters of evaluation must be submitted directly from the evaluators. The Office of Admissions will not accept letters submitted by students."

Basically means they don't want you mailing/emailing the LORs to them. They want them directly from AADSAS or from the writer himself

sorry to steal your thread.... do you have to pay for each school you deliver it too or do you just pay to send it to AADSAS ???

if you have interfolio.... you pay interfolio to have them send it to AADSAS.... but you don't pay AADSAS any fees for the LORs (its included with the AADSAS fees)

I used Interfolio through my University. I did'nt have to pay any fees to use it. They did'nt even make me pay for stamps for sending out all the letters. Interfolio was very handy because I would receive emails as my letters arrived. AADSAS is slow with updates. After each cycle AADSAS wipes their system clean and they wont retain your letters if you have to apply twice. So I'm glad I used interfolio because Ihad to apply twice.

Is there any downside of using Interfolio besides having to pay? It sounds like a great service, and a good security blanket if one were not to get accepted this cycle.

I used Interfolio and liked it. However, I didn't like having to explain to my LOR writers what interfolio was and why they had to send it to interfolio. It kind of confused them.

Also, I did not like that you had to have a interfolio account matching form to send anything. I know it makes it faster for them, but it was annoying to have to send an interfolio account matching form for the aadsas LOR matching forms that you need to send a LOR to aadsas. It just took extra time and effort.

Also, you have to make sure that your LOR write sends the account matching form along with the LOR.

But overall, I would recommend using Interfolio. They keep everything for you, and send everything for you. Its convenience outweighed the downside.

approx 2 years ago... I read more than a few bad reviews about interfolio being bad... being slow....loosing mail....

Honestly, I didn't experience a single negative side-effect. Even all my professors were very well aware of interfolio... its a very common thing used by many students applying for professional schools

I think it's a waste to use interfolio when AADSAS' system is set up pretty well. Just have your LOR people write your letters and electronically upload them. It really isn't that hard.

thats not entirely correct. A person I know have been bitten pretty hard about this. Some professors take vacations around the time AADSAS opens up, and some of them don't inform the students. To your shocking surprise, aadsas opens up and you can't get a hold your professor, isn't responding to emails and you have to wait until he returns.

I bring up this very example thats exactly what happen to my friend applying to med schools a few years ago. He couldn't get a final LOR writer last minute so he had to wait till end of summer for the professor to respond.

$40-50 dollars for a 5 year interfolio subscription is well worth the money considering how many thousands your blowing into applying.

I agree with dentalworks, I also think theres a PRICELESS value for holding LORs for an infinite period of time, if I dont get in this year and have to re-apply I dont have to find my professors again. (esp since one them is retiring and the other is an adjunct.)

I guess I can see it that way if you are really afraid you won't get in. I think it differs on your situation. That's why I conversed with all of my LOR writers and mentioned when the service opened and checked that they would be in town and able to enter the letters within a couple weeks. If you do that, there's really no need to worry.
