Hi Guys, i'm attending LECOM next year and I wanted to get some interning hours this summer. I know I need a license, but not sure how to do that. I have googled it a couple times, but not sure where to go. I live in Pennsylvania... so anyone with info on Pa would be great!!! 👍

The rules are different for each state. Check with your state's board of pharmacy on when you can get your intern license. You really won't need it until you start doing IPPE, or whatever your school calls the initial practice experience. Most likely, your state won't let you get an intern license until you are at least halfway through your first year of pharmacy school. I know at my school, they brought in a representative from the state board of pharmacy to give us instruction on when we could and what we had to do to apply for our intern license.

You can't be an intern until you've completed 2 years of pharmacy school, so I'm assuming you can start the summer before your P3 year.

I believe your prepharm counts as those 2 years, so you can get a license the summer before entering pharmacy school. You can always call up the PA board of pharmacy and ask.

That would make more sense to me. Seems weird to not allow someone to get their intern hours until they're halfway through school.

Pharm exp: Erie

At lecom erie, you are responsible for getting 750 hours of interning on your own. They also have class all summer, so they suggested you get them this summer. They said you can get an intern license in Pa as soon as you gat an acceptance letter, which i have. I know for a fact you don't have to wait 2 years, because our IPPE'S are the first summer after the start of pharm school. I also asked a lecom erie student when they got their interning hours and she said before she started pharm school. I just don't know how to go about getting one.
