hello to all lovely sdn freinds , i honestly value much to hear opinions from all and listen to all advices and be so thankfull to all who give time to reply 🙂
here my issue :
im an international dentist ( fresh graduate) just will be done with my internship year by the end of this month , then i plane after that to get into international dentist program in us but due to the long wait process for the international dentist program to gain addmision , i thought instead of waiting , that i go do a second bach in bio major from 4 year university in usa and get a higher gpa than the one i got already and then apply to regular 4 year dental school . so i would value much to hear ppl thoughts about that and ur opinions? thx

so you just graduated from a fully funded program and you already want to bail on your country, is it that bad there?

I know someone who did this, and it isn't a bad plan. You might also consider doing a masters' degree instead of a full Bachelor's, depending on how much you need to increase your grades.

The ITD programs have hundreds of applicants and take maybe a dozen, so your odds of getting accepted into one are fair at best, if you have an outstanding application. Otherwise you may not be so lucky. And you're right that the application process can be a few years long.

If you applied to do dental school over again from the start, your chances of being accepted are much better. And sometime while repeating your undergraduate degree, you would probably apply for citizenship, which would put you into the regular pool and give you a good chance of being accepted if your grades are competitive.

Have you thought about applying to both options? If school is still fresh in your mind then maybe you would do well on the ITD entrance exam and practical test. If you got rejected, then you could always go to plan B. 🙂

So let me get this straight... you're already a dentist in your home country. To be a practicing dentist, you have the option of either
- Staying where you are and doing what you're doing

or

- Moving to the USA (it's a pain, and I came from Canada)
- Doing a 3-4 year undergrad degree (stuff you probably already know, going into debt since you can't get loans/finaid as an international, out-of-state student)
- Applying to Dental School (filling out applications, studying for/taking the DAT, travelling around to interviews)
- Doing a 4-year Dental program (stuff you probably already know, going into a TON of even more debt)

Seriously, you are already where all the pre-dents on this forum want to be. Why would you want to start all over, sacrifice 7-8 years of income AND go into hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt? What is the attraction?

Depend on what you really want.If you are young, do not have a family and have some savings- do whatever you want.I did not have a choice, I had to move to Canada. You may try to get licenesed in Canada, it will cost you about 6000$, but you need to be ready, it will be very difficult.
To apply to IDP you will need working experience and if you are from India be ready for a lot of competition.

@Edentulator im a fresh graduate and yes school is still in my mind but i would like to know how would a mater program increas my undergraduate grades ? and do u think i better go that path with second bach and then apply to dental school instead of wait for years until i get into international dentist program ?thx

hello Medwell , i thought to do a second bac as this time i get a more competitive status other than wait for years until i get accepted to an international dentist program but feel so confused on either go with path or not 😕
