So, I'm applying to both Ireland and England, but the English schools mystify me. I'm applying to all the irish schools, but for the four choices we get in England, does anyone have any suggestions for the most international friendly ones? Thanks.

Just come back from visiting exeter university the med course is penninsula . For the entirity of our sojurn me and two other second meds from UCD remarked on how much better they have it.
The Med students live on a separate campus than the rest of the university. Their campus is small but tightly knit situated literally across the road from the hospital with which they are affiliated. (not the 40min bus ride to the Mater Hospital like we have) . The student accomodation is also amazing Massive rooms with broadband access, large living room with sky digital and also . (unlike the main ones in U.C.D) . The course is also well respected having only come into being lately circa2001 i think . Its problem based and active learning as opposed to pre clinical and clinical years.
Also the city itself was really nice and the students of both the med and main campus were very friendly. Just in case you were considering.

But while i complain about ucd it pales in comparison to trinity 🙂 yuk yuk yuk.

kind of depends what you mean by 'international friendly'.

well the new RCSI owned medical college in Bahrain is very international friendly,...................currently there are American, Canadian, British, German Italian students enroled in the college and this year the first student from Ireland started............just click on the link from www.rcsi.ie home page...........the college in Bahrain is RCSI-MUB
happy searching

the website address for that college is www.rcsi-mub.com,

I was just wondering - does RCSI Dublin really have that varied student body that they're known to have? I mean, it seems like basically all the non-EU spots are already taken up by Canadian and American students...what about students from Asia, Africa, etc?

Of the international student body in RCSI, American and Canadian students make up about only 10 % of each year......................
you see it varies..................most US and Canadian students go into the 1st med year and skip the foundation year....................
from the 2006 calss that gratuated the biggest international group was students from the middle east and the gulf region............from UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, etc.................mostly government sponsored

in the classes below this Malaysian students make up the biggest %.............
around 65 Malaysian students enter RCSI each year on the PMC programme............PMC is a college in penang owned by RCSI and UCD,...........65 students go to each college each year ( combined total of 130)..............most are on the 5 year programme,...........and the rest on the 6 year programme...............they spent either 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 years in dublin then go back to penang for the clinicals,..................in the clinical years in dublin both rcsi and ucd , have a reduction in the numbers of malaysian students because of this twinning programme.................

but there are malaysian government students about 40 diveded between UCD and RCSI who do the full course in Ireland..............
and among the private Malaysian studets who do full course there are about 10 in each year for the full programme in RCSI...............

as for US and Canadian students,,,,,,,,,i know that of the 25 international place that were available this year on the new 4 year programme in RCSI, the student are mostly from the US and Canada,............the other 25 are EU students, mostly irish.............this 4 year programme has 50 students...its the 1st year of this programmme.................so some of the US students who wold have previously applied for the 5 year programmme , applied for the 4 year programmme this year.................

other countries well represented in RCSI are Australia, and Norway..............as Norway not been part of the EU, students from there can apply as international students...............other students come from Nigeria, Jordon, Egypt, Sudan, Syria, Cyprus, Malta, and China................

so US and Canadian students do not make up the biggest international group............in the pre- clinical years its the malaysians, in the clinical years i would give the edge to the Gulf region students over the US and Canada combined, followed by the full course malaysians..................

its an interesting story..................

Thanks for the insight! I confused the composition of the 4-yr med program with that of other programs at RCSI. It does seem like RCSI has a really interesting international student body...I like that.

Are you a student there as well?
