Hi everyone,

As some of you may know, in Canada we have been slow with our degree creep and the professional degree still awarded in most provinces in the BScPhm. However, my university has found an unusual way around that. Instead of graduating in 4 years with a BScPhm, you have the option of graduating in 5 years with a dual BScPhm and PharmD. The PharmD curriculum is normally 2 years in addition to the four year BScPhm (which requires one year of undergrad to apply, seven years total) but it is accelerated/condensed to overlap with the final fourth year of the BScPhm with one extra year (and no summers).

So, I will be graduating with both a BScPhm and a post-grad PharmD. Since this is the traditional "two-year" post-graduate PharmD curriculum instead of the entry-level PharmD, would this difference be recognized if I practiced in the US? As the courses are more advanced than those that would be taught in an entry-level PharmD, would the last post-graduate year be considered equivalent to a PGY1?

Here is a link to the exact curriculum if you are wondering what it entails: http://pharmacy.utoronto.ca/bscphm-pharmd/current-students

Also, if you were hiring (assuming I had a green card), would the fact that my university is in Canada make a difference?

Thank you.
