Does anyone know anything about the ramifications of doing an internship abroad in terms of licensing etc. (assuming that it is sanctioned by my program). I am in an APA accredited program, and am seriously considering doing my internship in another country (which will not be accredited or anything) for various relevant reasons. I am confident that the training and supervision provided will be up to par, but am wondering if anyone else has done this/knows about this and what its effect is on ultimate career and licensure etc.

There are many discussions on here regarding the career limitations/ramifications of taking a unaccredited internship. Might wanna do a search.

I always pressed for an APA-accredited internship simply to leave the door open for the VA (whom I ended up working for). I'm sure there are other reasons for doing and APA internship.

It depends on the real benefits of this particular internship for your career, I suppose. Perhaps it would open some doors to career paths not otherwise available at other, APA-accredited sites. You'd have to answer that.

There are a plethora of reasons why this would be a bad idea, and very few (if any) reasons why this would be good. The one exception is an internship in Canada....though I am unclear of the CPA & APA arrangement as of this year. If you really want to work abroad, do it AFTER you are licensed, as you do not want to be locked out of any position because you did not pursue an APA-acred internship.
