What's the bigger picture with residency evalutions? At strong medicine programs, I imagine most people get the same satisfactory/good evaluations with a few people getting exceptional grades and a few people getting poor ones. On a scale of 1-9 what is average vs good vs bad? If you end up in the middle of the pack when its all said and done, does this hinder you from going for competitive fields like cards or gi? Can research overshadow an average performance for these fields?
Just asking cuz it seems harder to stand out in residency. In med school it was easier cuz not everybody would be interested in medicine and I didn't come from a great school but now in residency at a better program, I feel the standard is higher and my peers are just as good as I am. For fellowship reasons, I am wondering if it would have been easier to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond...
