Hey everyone, I'm new to SDN although I have been a lurker for quite some time. My dilemma is that I want to take the MCAT this summer/end of the summer to dodge all the changes but I wont have taken physics by that time unless I take summer classes. Summer classes would also help me graduate in time because I am not a science major and have used up more elective credits than I would have liked to to explore potential majors. However, I did an internship at Roche this summer. From what I've been told, they would like to have me back. While I dont think MCAT prep and an internship are mutually exclusive I'm worried that it might be easier to just take the physics class at my Uni when I have to do it anyway.

So basically I am choosing between staying at my University over the summer, taking classes, working, shadowing, and doing MCAT prep vs doing an internship and MCAT prep over the summer. If anyone has any advice I appreciate it greatly.

Cheers,
Ben

Hey Ben,

I also couldn't fit in all the required courses for pre-med when I was in school and had to finish them after graduating while working full time. It was pretty stressful, so if you have an opportunity to finish all of that while still in undergrad, you should really think about taking physics over the summer. Also, I know several people who did MCAT prep before taking all the pre-requisites, but it's really tough. For your resume, you probably don't need two summers working at a place like Roche, especially because it's not like you can get on any papers or anything. Good luck!

Taking classes, working, shadowing, and doing MCAT prep at the same time is a recipe for disaster. That's way too much other stuff going on that'll take away from your MCAT prep, which should be a priority.

Never judge summer activities by what you think others want to to do. If you liked Roche and want to go back, do it. Interning while studying for the MCAT is much more reasonable and doable.

If you choose to do Roche, then I fear that you may regret not having used that time to take physics and end up suffering on your MCAT. You may even have trouble graduating on time. Why go through that stress?

If you don't choose Roche, what's the downside? The only thing I can think of is loss of spending money. You've already done it once, so I really don't think that you will gain much more insight or new experiences. If you enjoyed working with the people there, you can always contact them outside of work to maintain your relationships. What would you gain by repeating an internship?

Thanks everyone for the replys.
As for not choosing Roche, I feel that it is such a big company and because I worked in development theres still so much else to see in things like research, marketing, etc. Plus I only worked on one Assay when the company produces so much more.

Honestly I'm not totally sure how I got the internship. Going into it I had research experience in poli sci and pathology, but when I got there I feel alot of it was dumb luck.

I also didn't work Roche pharma so what they're looking for might be different
