I have been researching various internship recently, looking mainly at those that offer forensic experiences. I have looked at all of those that mention forensic/correctional experience as a major training rotation such as prisons and some state hospitals. However, through talking to the students in my program that just matched a few of them mentioned that they were going to have a forensic rotation during their internship at sites that were not listed. I was wondering if anyone could speak to any sites that are not traditionally forensic/correctional but offer one of these rotations and/or talk about the quality of those programs/rotations. Thanks!

I think they might list it as a major emphasis area, so you've probably already seen it, but back when I was on the interview trail, Central Regional Hospital in NC said that took one intern who would work primarily in a forensic setting. I believe the other interns may have been able to do some type of minor rotation through there, but I'm not positive about that.

I think the Houston VA has a competency restoration forensic-ish rotation. Not sure if everyone gets to do it or if only a select intern does.

Thanks for these! I did know about Central State Hospital, but not the one at the Houston VA, those are the kind I was more wondering about. Anybody else know something similar?

I'd suggest checking with Houston (as well as any other sites with a minor emphasis area) to be sure they still have that opportunity. I thought I heard someone mention they might not be offering it right now, but I could be mistaken. The Houston VA is still a great site overall, though, of course.

The Augusta VA/CGNorwood consortium has a community track position that offer some forensic minor experience and will offer more next year. UNC-CH has a good blended forensic internship. Emory has a forensic-y rotation with females. I think Harvard/Mclean does. Most of the others are at BOP, correctional, and state hospital settings. A few balanced forensic internships are Mendota, Arkansas State/DBHS, FMC Devens (also drugs and sex offenders and rounds at Mass Gen), FMC Springfield (BOP main hospital) I interviewed at alot of forensic sites, so let me know if you have questions.

Canvas Mental Health in Minneapolis doesn't have a forensic track, but they have some forensic-y rotations. Same with Southeast Human Services in Fargo, ND.
