Hi 🙂 I am SUUUPER excited to have gotten my first interview at PCOM SG. I got it two weeks after submitting my secondary, so it feels nice to be wanted!

I am a little surprised about being chosen, as I don't seem to be a big mission fit. They are focused on rural medicine and want to create future doctors for the region. For context, I've always lived in or near medium-sized/big cities and dont have much rural experience other than visiting my grandma as a kid. I really want to ace this interview-- should I be focusing on emphasizing other aspects of my app, like working with underserved populations and such?

I know wondering "why me?" is futile but I do hope to emphasize whatever aspects they liked about me in the interview, lol. I guess my question is -- how could I demonstrate a good mission fit?

Congratulations!

Your WAMC was redacted

I would understand your application's strengths and weaknesses when it comes to fitting with their program. The important question is whether you want to stay there.

Thank you 🙂 Super grateful for the opportunity. I can definitely see myself there for school -- i like the idea of being a "community doctor" and think it would be cool to learn in that kind of environment. Admittedly, I don't see myself practicing in the area, as I would probably want to return to Illinois or California. Seems like a lot of students match in bigger cities, though, so other than not matching the school's mission it may not be a big problem?

Yeah, my WAMC was pretty specific 🤣 Essentially: lots of research and clinical hours, some volunteering with foodbanks/crisis lines/refugees/environmental stuff, some clinical volunteering with disaster services

That ma be their mission, but missions aren't absolutes. If you go into Derm in Miami, they won't mind.
