I am noticing a lot of requests for "a 2x2 picture" or a "passport picture". I know they want to put a face to a name and application, but what should I be submitting. Obviously not a picture of me at a bar holding up a drink... Should I be wearing a suit, is this a headshot type deal? Should I be smiling or not smiling, but not looking gloomy? Should it be casual or formal or in between? Does it matter? Any inputs from those in the know? =]

I wore a suit jacket, and was smiling, and took a shoulders-and-up photo.

For the picture that I sent to schools I wore a button down shirt and tie. I also had a slight smile going on (really had to look at the picture long and hard to realize that I was smiling). You don't need to do anything extravagant, but you should look as professional and presentable as possible. I don't think you need to bust out a suit for this picture, but I know people that have. Its all up to you.

Just... take a picture of yourself. If you want some guidance, here's mine:

That said, we got an old school face book for our class that used our application pictures, and some people made... interesting choices. I'd say a majority of people took a picture specifically for this purpose and some just cropped old pictures. Some people also used pictures that I personally thought were in appropriate/unprofessional, but they still got in, so what do I know.

I'd go on the safe side and just do something boring (like mine).

i used a picture of me at the bar, but it was only from the shoulders up and i wasn't visibly hammered.

+1 I was a little hammered though, I don't think they will be able to tell I just have a big stupid smile on my face with an eyebrow pose?
