I've seen some post saying that a suit is the way to go for PT interviews. So i made my first suit purchase the other day and I got a vest with it... The vest looks really sharp, but is it over the top?

Yes, it'd be over the top.

I don't think it's over the top personally. If the school doesn't specify dress code for interviews, I think it's always better to risk overdressing rather than underdressing.

I have an interview this Friday myself, but the school was very specific that business casual was appropriate so I won't be wearing a suit. Originally, that was the plan though.

Vests do look sharp. But IMO it's inappropriate for this type of interview. As would be french cuffs.

I think i agree with rangardrum. overdressing is better than underdressing. But since everyone at your interview should be wearing at least a suit, it's up to you if you want to wear the vest with it

Don't do it, dude. A nice suit is a must. But in the same way that some interviewees boast inappropriately about their high GPA's or perfect GRE scores during the tour, or constantly bring up how their interview at Mayo went so well, you don't want to stand out for the wrong reason. Don't be that guy who wore a flashy vest or a pocket handkerchief. Wear a nice watch, if you feel like accessorizing. Let your personality take you the rest of the way.

Oh yeah, the vest itself isn't necessary.

Listen to these guys (and girls if they had input). A nice suit is a must, but the vest isn't. IMO, the interview is to see if you are compatible with the university and its program. sure there are some questions about why do you wnat to be a PT, or why did you choose this particular school, but I find a lot of the interview is basically a get-to-know-you type interview but you should still look sharp, but def not like you are heading to the red carpet...

Thank you everybody for your input, I'm gonna pass on the vest for now.... But do you encourage a vibrant tie, I mean like a red tie, nothing with lights on it or anything lol

My best advice for you would be to dress in whatever makes you feel the best. Just go in whatever makes you feel confident. I just bought an argyle purple crossed tie. I think I'm going to wear that because it just looks too amazing. =]

You should wear anything that is going to distract them from listening to you and your answers during the interview. I usually wear a black suit with a light blue and green tie, a maroon tie, or a black and silver tie. Treat it like a job interview, bc its basically going to be your job for the next 2.5-3 yrs.

Same here, I've had 2 interviews-black suit with a white shirt and a light blue & green tie, and the second one same suit and shirt with a black and silver tie and got into both schools. 4 more interviews to go, so far...
