Hi all and Happy Holidays. I will be canceling some interviews but am wondering when is it too late to cancel an interview? The one I'm concerned about is January 4th, which is less than a week away.

Thanks so much.

Jan 4th might be a little close but in the end they dont want you to waste their time and I am sure you dont want to waste yours.

Agreed. If you are not going to consider a program, the PD doesn't want to waste faculty time or your money. Just give us a warning as soon as you decide against. It's irritating to have set up the interviews, have the faculty on hand and then somebody doesn't show.

That blows my mind that someone at this stage in their life would actually just NOT show up for an interview as important as this. I guess some people grow up faster than others, and the rate is not linear with their academic performance.

I doubt someone would just not show up. I had a TY interview that I had to cancel because of availability issues. I scheduled it in early october, then in mid oct I asked to change my mid Nov appt, the RC told me they couldnt so I decided to cancel it. I sent an email and a phone call, then on the day of the interview I get a call about me not showing up. I call back and I tell them I sent an email on Date X and got a reply on Date Y acknowledging this.

She looked through her records and apologized. In reality everyone is adding, cancelling and going through a lot of interviews. Some people are just more organized then others. I really doubt someone in their 4th yr of med school is that unprofessional but then again oh the things I have seen from some residents 😱 (non EM BTW)

Thanks everyone. I decided not to cancel and am looking forward to the interview.

Happy New Year.
