Hey kind of wondering what everyone is wearing on your interview day. I know obviously a shirt and tie, but you going to the extent of having a jacket? Everyone keep it simple with white shirt black tie? Obviously the point is to look professional.

Definitely, definitely wear a jacket. You might take it off, but you should at least have it with you. I would probably wear it for the actual interview, too, but you could take it off if you're touring the school, having lunch if they feed you, etc.

Professional is essential, like you said, and simple is fine. But if you have the option of doing something a little more unique than just white shirt/black tie, while still keeping it professional, that might be nice. That's just my opinion. You don't want to blend in too much.

I didn't wear a jacket and I was still accepted. I don't think really matters that much, just don't show up in a ratty old t-shirt and you'll be fine. They want to know about YOU not your wardrobe.

Where did you guys interview at?

True. I didn't mean to come off like an elitist. It's just that most of the guys I know, when they go to an important job interview, they always wear a jacket. After feeling out the situation, they may decide they don't need to wear it, but it's good to have one. Eyestrain is right...they want to get to know you; they are not assessing your fashion sense. A nice dress shirt and tie looks very professional...but add a jacket to that, and I think it looks even more professional. That's just my opinion.

Maybe, as a girl, I should just shut up and leave this one to the guys. 😀

I agree to wear the jacket.

For you guys: wear a RED tie...it signifies power. I'm sure some of you heard of this before. The color has a strong yet appropriate contrast against a white collared shirt and looks very sharp. Trust me, you can't go wrong with a nice, bold red tie!

Here's what I mean: http://desktoppub.about.com/cs/colorselection/p/red.htm (look at the part that talks about the color red).

darn that Stanfurd!

go for a nice gold/blue combo - it can be your Cal tie.

i'm only kind of kidding, because some faculty are die hard Cal Bears, why give them anything to pick on?

good luck to all!

I agree to wear the jacket if already have one, but don't go out and blow money on one just for an interview.
