So I have my first interview on Thursday and was struggling to decide what to carry into the hospital / into each interview.

One option was just a leather planner with a notebook, perhaps some resumes? this would be professional, and no worries about looking after a bag e.t.c, but if they give you stuff like folders with info e.t.c. where do you keep it

The other option was carrying a bag - I have one which is fairly professional, i actually got it at the American Academy of Neurology annual meeting (and i am applying for neurology) so it may make a good impression, but i don't wanna be the only one carrying a bag around on the tours, into interviews e.t.c. (it also may be a disadvantage in prelim interviews?)

what are y'all doing and what are yr thoughts / advice

thanks

You can actually go with nothing but a pen. They will usually give you a folder of materials. some like to have a folio to stick this folder into, others just carry the folder. A bag is an option, but I probably wouldn't.

If the AAN bag is anything like the bags I get from conferences (ie, ripcord with AAN, date and location of the conference emblazoned on it), I wouldn't carry it. Unless the bag is leather and you can hide the logos, sounds fairly UNprofessional to me. It may be a tad over the top in trying to convince them how into neuro you are...but that's just me, if someone came into one of my interview carrying an ACS bag I'd think they were sort of toolish.

As L2D notes, you can carry nothing, carry a portfolio or a bag. Or you might want to do a search because this question gets asked about every two weeks or so...or alternatively scroll down to the very bottom of this page and you'll see some sample threads with the same topic which may be useful.

I took a leather portfolio thing to a couple of them to take notes but as previously said you usually get a big folder of info so by days end you have quite a handful. I would suggest just a pen. Not all the folders had them; then you can take notes in the info/circle items and won't have so much to carry at the end.

Highly, highly recommend not carrying around the AAN logoed bag. That will set everyone's tool radar blazing.
