Just wanted to advise people who interview at SLU against taking the MetroLink to the pre-interview dinner. It did not seem to be a safe location, and I did not feel comfortable walking from the Grand Ave stop to the hospital.

Just wanted to advise people who interview at SLU against taking the MetroLink to the pre-interview dinner. It did not seem to be a safe location, and I did not feel comfortable walking from the Grand Ave stop to the hospital.

As an 8-year veteran of St. Louis, I can say with complete certainty that the $30 cab ride from the airport is worth it to skip the metrolink......especially at night. Bad things happen on the metrolink.

And you're right, the Grand Ave station is quite spooky.

Ditto that for the SLU stop - the SLU hospital is in a decent place, but the metrolink stop is 1/2 a mile away in the middle of a rail yard. The WashU stop is immediately adjacent to the medical complex and wouldn't be a problem.

The Metrolink ride was one of the significant contributors to why I didn't bother ranking WashU last year. Nothing bad happened but I did not feel safe at any time, including walking around the WashU campus in broad daylight on a weekday. The city is a freaking dump, worse than Philly.

It's "america's most dangerous city" for a reason. We used to be #3 behind Camden and Detroit, but took the coveted #1 spot this year. The interesting part is that East St. Louis isn't even included in that ranking......
