I was thinking of applying to both the categorical and transitional spots at Scripps Mercy. Would I be interviewing with the same people? Would that be looked down upon?
I don't know about Scripps program in particular. But I know some institutions do not look upon applying to both categorical and TY. I would assume this would be true at most places. So I would suggest not applying to both.
Really? I applied both TY and prelim IM at a few places and have combined interviews (either same day or back to back days) at most of the places I applied to both.
Can't speak specifically for Scripps-Mercy. I only applied TY there and haven't heard anything.

You're talking prelim IM and TY. The OP asked about categorical IM and TY (although I suspect) s/he meant prelim, not TY, but I could be wrong. If it really is Cat IM and TY, nobody will care (just like prelim IM + TY). If it is Prelim IM + Cat IM that can be problematic.
