Just wondering if any other Master's of Occupational Therapy applicants have gotten interview calls from any Texas institutions!

I got a call yesterday from Texas Tech! Really excited! Hope to hear from some of you soon! 🙂
 
I guess the OT forums are not as active as the others. I'm wondering when we should even hear about interviews. I applied for TWU and their interview date is the 1st Friday in Dec. And when do you typically find out if you're accepted?

Anyone also know what to expect on the writing sample if we're called in for the interview? Congrats on your interview at Texas Tech...hopefully, I'll get some answers since I haven't had much luck getting any advice on here :xf:
 
I called TWU and they said that if you are invited for an interview you will receive an official invite in the mail, more than likely no later than the second week in november.

As for the writing sample, who knows!? I do not think they make it difficult, but they want to see that you can put together a short paper with good spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

As far as acceptance news, i believe no later than the end of February, but it all depends on the amount of applicants and interviewees! Good luck, and let me know if you hear anything! Did you apply anywhere else in Texas?
 
Thanks so much...that was very helpful 🙂 I found out that they sent letters out yesterday but didn't know when. I went ahead and tentatively put in my dates off for work during that time since we have to request off in advanced.

I'm pretty much applying wherever my husband applies for a job (which makes it much more complicating and stressful). More than likely, he will find his job first and I'll just have to follow but he's looking at practicing in Dallas. If I don't get invited or accepted, it's okay...I told him I'd try again next year...I just hope it all works out since I'm also applying for Wash. U, Belmont, and Spaulding. I'd hate to turn down any acceptances if TWU doesn't take me -- I just have to take chances I guess 😉 He was offered an opportunity in Charleston, so if we end up there...I'll have time to apply there later since it starts during the summer. Needless to say, it's so hard but just taking one day at a time.

Sounds like we are in the same boat sort of! What does your husband do for a living? My boyfriend is graduating form pharmacy school in May, and he wants to stay in south texas. I did apply to Ut-pan american, but i will not hear from them until mid june! I will hear from all of the other schools i applied to way before that!

He said that he will follow wherever I get in if I don't get the school in the valley, but he will definitely get a paycut! I thought about putting it off a year if I do not get accepted ino the valley, but I think the smartest thing to do is go where I get in! He kind find a job in a pharmacy anywhere! For les pay, but anywhere! So on top of stresing to keep my grades up and getting accepted, now I have to stress about where I get accepted! lol it never ends! But, I can't wait to start!

I'm glad I'm not the only one applying while my husband is finding a job 😉 He told me that he'd follow me (he will be a certified pediatric dentist), but I thought it'd be cutting it close if he waited for me to get accepted and then start job hunting a few months before he graduated! Needless to say, guess we just have to take chances. I'm not really expecting to get an interview at TWU since I don't reside in TX...I'm thinking they'll take instate 1st, plus, I haven't take the neuroanatomy (not offered where I am). But, if he got a job in TX and I didn't get in the 1st time...I told him I'd take the neuro class next year and maybe it'll increase my chances and by then, I'll be a resident 🙂 On the other hand, I'll have to reconsider having him follow me 😉

Best of luck with your interview...you'll have to keep me posted on how it goes!
 
hi!! Congrats on getting an interview! I applied to TWU also, but haven't heard yet maybe I'll get it tomorrow! When is the interview? GOOD LUCK! Do you know how many people applied?? Keep me posted! was it an email or real mail?

ATOT: Thank you very much! I got the news through e-mail and the interview is December 4th. I am not too sure how many people applied, i am sure they will tell that information at the interview. There are two different campuses, which one was your first choice houston or dallas?
 
I put Dallas as my first choice! What about you? So after the interviews when do they let you know if you got in or not?
 
I put Houston as my first choice, a little closer to home, and I have family there.

They said that the graduate will make the final decision by December 18th, and they will mail out official acceptance/denial letters in January of 2010.
 
Glad to have found this forum. I, too, will be going to Tech for an interview this month. Jav-When is your interview scheduled?
 
I had my interview yesterday on Nov. 6th. When is yours?

I think it went well. Everyone was very nice! The interview was not bad at all, felt more like a friendly conversation than being on the spot! Wear comfortable shoes for the tour! lol. Good luck!
 
Great to hear - thanks for sharing the info. How many were in your group? Did they give you any idea when you might hear back as to an admissions offer?

It's my understanding there are two Fall interview groups - then one in the spring.
 
There were 16 of us when I interviewed, and they said we should know by December 1st.

Anyone else hear from UTMB!? Got an e-mail today, let me know!

Got an email from them too, have an interview for dec. 4th. how was ur interview at tech, d essay and the what kind of questions should we preparefor? please let me know.
 
TECH does not have an essay. The questions are the basics, like why you chose the field, what interests you the most about it, what are some of your strengths and weakensses. It was more like a conversation than an interview. Real nice people! I would not be too nervous! You got an e-mail from UTMB too?! Thats great! Are you in Texas?
 
Hi, I too got an email for the interviews at TWU. I'm going on Dec.4th, I'm from the Valley and was wondering if anybody knew what to expect? Like what kind of interview questions will be asked or what the reading/writing activity would consist of?
 
I was told that with the activity they put us in groups and give us certain materials like clay or newspaper cuttings, and they ask us to make something. basically, just wanting to see how we interact in groups. as for the essay, i have no clue!

I was wondering was it because I still have 2 pre-reqs in progress?

I applied and got an email today saying that I will not be invited for an interview 🙁. Oh well, trying to stay positive and start thinking about next year.

For those of you that did get interview offers at TWU, what do you think it was that set you apart? GPA, volunteer work, GRE? If anyone is willing to share specific information I would be so appreciative.

I did 60hrs of volunteer 24 of those hours were under an OT per the application requirements. My GPA is a 3.3, and my GRE scores were pretty good. I also haven't taken the neuroanatomy class.

Any advice?

I feel your pain. Believe me, I really feel your pain, I wanted it so bad and was really counting on it. If I find out any information on what could help one's chances of getting accepted I will certainly share it with you.

Do you know if your chances of getting in are any better the 2nd time around?
 
Hmm...interesting! I was also rejected and want to know how to make my application stronger next year (emailed them). I wasn't sure if it was b/c I wasn't a TX resident and not having neuroanatomy 😕 I kind of aniticpated not being as strong by not having the neuro completed...it's not offered where I am. I even had my application submitted by end of the summer (few months before the deadline) along with all the pre-reqs (except Neuro) completed!

Be nice to know how we can improve our application for at least an interview next year. Anyone ever applied more than once and gotten in the 2nd time?
 
I should have also mentioned that I did apply as a resident of TX

It depends on the pre-reqs. If you are missing the sciences courses like a&p, or abnormal psych or stats I know they would rather the applicants have those.
 
Maybe more hours under and OTR and I do not think that TWU requires the GRE. The only Texas OT program that asks for the GRE is UTEP in el paso. Also, your recommendation letters have a lot to do with it too! Hope this helps and good luck!
 
I called TWU-Houston and was told they rank their applicants by GPA and offer the top 70 GPA's (with most pre-reqs completed) interviews.
 
I was wondering if anyone knew what the dress is for TWU dec 4th interview. I am assuming it is business professional but if anyone knows for sure let me know.
 
Dress professional to the interview at TWU & warm because it will be freezing. 😎I flying up there this afternoon for the same interview. I got interviewed last year, but didn't get in. I got an interview again this year. 🙂 Hope I do better in this one :xf::xf:
 
Okay, so what did you guys think about TWU and UTMB?! I have no clue what I am going to choose, wanted to see what everyone else's take was on the process! Hope to hear back soon!
 
I thought that my TWU interview and writing portion didn't go well... mostly because of nerves and it is the only school I applied to. How did everyone else do?
 
Myself, and the 3 girls I knew felt that it went well. The writing, I was expecting an article from a journal or something, so that was different, but I finished pretty quickly. You still have time to apply to other schools in Texas if you are really worried...
 
I was also at the interview on Dec. 4th in Houston.

I'll say it went well if I get in the program. ;-)

I didn't think it was too bad. The current OT students and faculty were very friendly. This is the only OT Master's Program I applied to. I'm praying I get in.
 
I was there at the TWU in Dallas Interviews too! I think it went well but there were soooo many people! I really hope I get in!

There were about 80-90 people there and only 45 get it, right? How many were at the Houston campus for those who went there? I wonder how they pick?

I understood there were 60-70 applicants at the Houston Interviews. I believe 42 are getting accepted.
 
Hello everyone! I received notification through email today that I have been recommended to the graduate school for the MOT program at TWU for next fall! Has anyone else heard back yet about their status?

Congratulations! Was that for the Dallas or Houston Campus?

I haven't heard anything back yet, and didn't expect I would till after Dec. 18th. They mentioned that was when they would be making their decisions and letting us know by mail in January if we were accepted or denied.
 
I got a recommendation for acceptance today too! for the dallas campus...so does that mean we are pretty much in or they still cutting 5 people? ah so nervous!

I got accepted to the Dallas campus. Pretty much if you got a recommendation, then that means your in. From what I heard, the graduate school doesn't turn down recommendations. I should get the official letter from the graduate school in January.
