Interview Order - Who Gets First Round of Interviews?

Depends on the school. I know that OSU hands out interviews based on GPA/MCAT alone, with the highest scores getting the earlier interviews. At a lot of schools, I think that they are just handing them out based on when you get your file complete. I don't have first-hand info about this, but if it wasn't true, then many of the schools would not claim that it is an advantage to apply early.

i'm pretty certain that case western is one of the schools that hands them out when you get your file complete, regardless of how competitive you are - my numbers are not competitive at all, but i was complete pretty early over there, and got an interview invitation a couple weeks ago

I do not have first hand knowledge of this, but most--if not all--schools will only interview people that they feel are competitive (borderline or better). They do not want to waste time interviewing people who have no shot, obviously. Also, the rolling schools factor in timing, but you still have to be competitive. I would imagine that it could push a borderline candidate into the yes pile.

If you are early and a top candidate numbers wise, you will get an early interview it seems. But some schools read the essays, and you can just get rejected with good scores (Northwestern 😡 ) I got put into another bracket of interviews at MCW because of my 7 in verbal...they screen based on each section, and they like to interview people with 10, 10, 11 before I guess 😕

....so is my mediocre 28 mcat the reason i havent seen any interviews a comin'?

I have my files complete since mid-August. It is earlier than some candidates that have recieved interview invites. I am not that competitive. So I assume they interview attractive candidates with completed files first.

Not at all. I have a 30 on my MCAT and I guarantee my GPA is lower than yours. Still, I'm going on my first interview early next week. Anyone who tells you that the most competitive applicants get the first interviews is wrong. But, I guess it depends on the school.

Hang in there...I have an MCAT close to yours and 4 interviews so far. Some schools may interview the high-numbers first, but there are some that apparantly don't!

BS. I know from personal experience that this is not the case.

To the OP, sorry there are no easy rules for how this process works.

actually, i've always heard that ohio state does that, too. i can't verify it though, just a bunch of anecdotal examples (which is probably the bulk of your assessment as well). guess i'll never know.

You know for a fact? Please refer to this thread http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=145789

What I know is this, my 3.85 GPA and 36 MCAT got me an interview late in November even though I had been processed and verified months before (July or August, I can't remember). There were quite a few people with acceptances when I was still wondering if I was even going to be interviewed. I'm sure OSU gets a lot of strong applicants but if it were purely numbers I think I would have gone a little sooner than I did. Maybe they're doing things different this year though.

this is true. although i have to admit having an early interview and subsequently an early acceptance does wonders to alleviate any stresses about not getting in to a medical school.

Well then, let's hope that the first interview ends up being my lucky one :luck:
