I have an interview coming soon, and I was wondering, how would SDN members answer the question how to pay for dentistry. In one of my previous interviews, I think I didn't do as well answering this question. In that interview, I mentioned the Natl health service as a way to pay back the loans I will be taking. Would I be better off talking about working as an associate for x years and then paying off the loans in y number of years?

have a list and perhaps tick it off as options (to show you are indeed well informed about the topic of paying for d school, which the intent of such a question as this might be to inform an interviewer how deep you've thought about dentistry school/ practice)? Do the research before the interview (impossible to fake under the typical interviewing circumstances, really) and make sure you are familiar with all the major options, including, but not limited to:

-military
-Health Corp scholarship during school
-Health Corp scholarship after school
-associateship after school and pay loans monthly (whip out that excel spreadsheet Bereno prepared in which you've tediously filled out every variable)
-mom/dad/family support
-trust fund
-combination of two or more of the above...

possible answers (no answer is wrong)
1) NHSC approved location
2) Some form of Military scholarship
3) work as a associate (majority of new graduates end here)
4) go into a residency

Eventually 5 years after graduation
4) buy into a practice
or....
5) establish ur own practice
