I've received a lot of help from fellow SDN-ers for difficult interview questions to anticipate, so I thought I'd share one that I had...not difficult as much as strange, though...

Interviewer 1: How many schools did you apply to?
Me: My response
Interviewer 2: How many schools have you received interviews to?
Me: My response
Interviewer 3: What are your top 3 choices for dental school?

...I just feel that these questions are irrelevant as to how well I'd do at their school. I gave my honest answer and can only hope for the best, but I just think it's unnecessary for them to know this to rank me as a candidate. The last question definitely caught me off guard though, so I hope other students can perhaps be better prepared, mentally, for the strange curve ball questions that might be thrown at you.

Good luck 🙂

These are perfectly reasonable questions. Interviewers ask them to measure how interested you are in their school and how likely you are to attend. If you have 7 interviews and you say your top 3 are their school (let's say a private school like BU or UDM) Columbia, and Penn, they'll know you are BSing and may have better options.

Admissions are tricky for adcoms: you want the best students but you don't want ones who won't go to your school and hurt your yield rate.

OP-you must be a great applicant if a school is worried you may not attend.

second that !👍

That's so sweet of you guys! Thank you for your responses, and I guess I never looked at it that way...but I might have just shot myself in the foot with the response I gave. They didn't ask me what schools I interviewed at, so I assumed my "top 3 choice of dental schools" was referring to an "ideal situation"...so essentially, if I were at BU, i said BU was my top choice and followed it up with something like Penn or Columbia...crap.

Just to clarify though, it wasn't actually BU, nor are Penn and Columbia in my top 3 (I know I have no chance of getting in, hah) but I was using them for the sake of examples
