Interview questions

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It varies between programs. A lot of programs ask you to tell them a little about yourself. They will ask you about where you grew up and went to school. They also like to ask you about your future plans after you finish residency. And many of them ask why you picked this particular specialty or residency program.

Sometimes, programs will ask you a few clinical questions, so you should be prepared for those. And occasionally a program will ask you, "What can you do for this program if we accept you?" So be sure that you have an answer to that particular question.

I also interviewed at one program where they didn't really ask us many questions about ourselves. It was more like, did we have any questions about the program. So residency program interviews often vary in the types of questions asked.

clinical questions?
really?
what kinds of clinical stuff? like, whether to start someone on an HCTZ or an ACE, or more on the ethical end of things?

One program I have already interviewed at (FP) presented a case over lunch of some guy with pancreatitis. There were 4 or 5 residency applicants there including myself. They went though all of us and asked what signs we would expect with pancreatitis.

Another residency, the chief resident asked me a few questions. I can't remember them all now : one was tell me about a difficult situation that you faced and how you dealt with it.
