Interview season and When do we start?

I was looking into scheduling my 4th yr electives. When is the general interview season for NRMP match specialties and about when do we actually start residency; June, July?

I was looking into scheduling my 4th yr electives. When is the general interview season for NRMP match specialties and about when do we actually start residency; June, July?

Basic timeline:

August --> register for ERAS
September - October --> apply to programs, register for NRMP
September - October --> early interviews for NRMP specialties (very few programs interview this early)
November 1st --> Dean's letter/MSPE goes out
mid-November - January --> most interviews
February --> late interviews (some programs)

I took off early November to the end of January, because I have to write a thesis and I finished my requirements, but most other applicants I met took off December or January and had electives with flexible scheduling (or forgiving attendings) the other months. Remember to take time to study for Step 2.

Agree with Above. I had my first interview Nov 7th.. And I have been offered interviews until Feb 9th.

Most people took Xmas week off and obviously no one interviews on Turkey day!

I interviewed late, with one before Xmas, and the rest after. But I was trying to finish all med school requirements by 1 Jan 05 so I could avoid the Step II-CS exam (which I did 😀 ).

To answer the second part of your question: most programs begin July 1, some a couple of weeks earlier (mid to late June).
