  1. Pre-Optometry
Hey All,

Can anyone help me out with what to expect during an optometry interview? I just got one to my school of choice and have no idea what's coming!

Has anyone had an interview and can help me out whether I should read up on stuff or even what to wear! haha I know that's a weird thing to ask, but first impressions matter!

Happy Holidays!🙂

I've only had one interview so far and two lurking in the future but I would definitely recommend wearing a suit. I and every other person wore one for our interview. In addition, in the databases section of this website there is a section titled "interview feedback" and I would read about the optometry school ones; specifically for the one you're interviewing at. The comments in there are useful and when I went to my interview I knew exactly what to expect and it went exactly how everyone else wrote it would.

Hi andrea, I don't know how to answer you about what to wear because I'm a guy..However, one of the girls who interviewed with me said that the interviewer took a look at her shoes..I guess open toed shoes (is that the correct term? I'm so fashionally challenged) is not recommended? Anyways, I think it would be a good idea to browse the interview forum..be sure to ask the interviewers questions.. The OD I work for told me to make sure I ask each interviewer something, so no one feels left out..Is your interview at SUNY by any chance? That is the only school I interviewed at...

haha thanks,
I'm a newbie at this site, but there's definitely better forums on the other part!

yes, i definitely would not recommend open toe shoes (good thing it's winter time!). Also, make sure your heel is short...a med school interviewer came to my school and gave advice on pre-health interviews and said that big heels don't make a good impression. He said if you're taking a tour of the campus and cannot walk well in your shoes then that's not a good sign.
