This came up once before and posters indicated that you shouldnt send one thanking the interviewer for grilling you. I just came back from a laid back interview and am preparing to send the note to the interviewer - she was very nice. Does this look bad? It's expected after job interviews so I feel I should treat this the same way. Thanks

I did write thank you notes for the interviewers and admission office right after my interview just to show my appreciation to them for putting my files together and spending time telling me about the school/program or interviewing me. If you personally see it as a sincere 'thank you' rather than 'sucking up', I don't think people who are receiving those notes would think you are.

I also sent thank you cards to my interviewers and to everyone who helped me through the admissions process. The student affairs officer just mentioned my thank you note to me last week and said I was the only one who sent them, so I guess it really did stand out as a nice gesture. If you sincerely feel like you want to express your thanks, then by all means do.
