Hello,
I have Sub-I's scheduled during the interview season (Oct-Dec).
Instead of taking days off to go on interviews, I'm trying to see if I can schedule my SubI workdays so it's favorable for going on interviews. I'm thinking of sacrificing the weekends for a certain day of the week.
Which day of the week is the most popular for IM interviews?

I am particularly interested in the Bay Area for residency, but any general input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

The most popular day is the one that ends in -day.

Seriously, I interviewed every day of the week. There might be a slight preference for Mondays and Fridays as they allow for travel on the weekends. But if you're planning on going anywhere that you can't drive in a couple of hours, you're going to need more than a day.

Why are you doing SubI's in prime interview season? How bad is your school's specialty advising? (That was a rhetorical question, it's obviously pretty crappy.) You should have Dec-Jan completely off. You don't need 3 Sub-Is, especially ones that won't be done in time to get LORs from.

Finally, I don't know about your Sub-I's, but I worked 6 days a week, just like the interns, on mine.

Most of my IM interviews were Nov-Dec, earliest one late Oct. I also agree most of your AI's should be completed before interview season. Apart from letters, which may or may not be important for you from these rotations, it was the highest yield month of medical school. I'd milk it and enjoy the experience without having to stress with scheduling and interviews. I also worked 6 days per week and the day I took off was usually not a long call day. If possible, try to shift your schedule so Nov is pretty chill.

Thank you for your advice.
I am a DO student w/ above average school grade(but not honors), Step 1 score of 236, and 1~2 research. I don't intend on doing fellowship afterwards as my love for IM stems from wanting to know everything and practice broadly.

But I'm Desperately trying to get residency in the Bay Area, as it's the only way I can be together with my spouse. Unfortunately it's an extremely competitive geographical region and I have 2 things going against me: out of State DO student, and a weak geographical tie to the Bay Area. I feel like the only way I can get an edge is to make myself known to the program and charm my way in. The 2 SubI's I have in the Oct-Dec are the ones in the Bay Area. Unfortunately, I could not get them any earlier.
I suppose I can try to move the December one to January but the program has been very unresponsive.

Given my story, do you think it's still a bad idea? SHould I cancel the December SubI?...

I can handle the crazy schedule and I'm willing to suffer for few months to increase my chance of having a life with my spouse.

Name the programs. That will help answer the question. Not trying to out you or anything. But if you're talking about aways at UCSF and Stanford, just cancel them now. If it's Kaiser NorCal and SCVMC/CPMC/St Mary's, then probably not a terrible idea.

Also, you need to remember that your #1 goal is to match. Your #2 goal is to match near your spouse.

Agreed with the above I'm pretty sure I interviewed every day of the regular workweek. Just plan on being as flexible as possible most attending understand, and if they don't understand and you are doing a sub I there maybe that's a good sign you don't want to be there for the long haul.

Interviews are every day of the week, but mostly weekdays.
