I know this will be variable and possibly something that has no real definite answer, but of those interviewed, how many are generally accepted? In other words, how many "extra" people do schools interview in order to get the seats filled? Granted this is a silly question, but I'll be much more relaxed on interview day if someone tells me 90% or something!!!! O.k., I admit, I probably just have too much time on my hands right now. I'd better go do some chores!

It depends on the school. Some schools accept about 20% of the people they interview. Others accept up to 60%. You can actually see real numbers if you look at the US News Report on specific medical schools which includes DO schools but you have to pay a one time fee I believe.

Also, keep in mind that schools will accept more than they have spots to fill. That is because not all acceptees will choose to attend their schools. Some of the "back-up" schools will tend to accept more, for the obvious reasons. They have to try and balance so that in the end they will have a reasonable amount of students for their incoming class. Sometimes they miscalculated and ended up with a small class size... in that case, they will pull people off of the waitlist.

So, the 20 to 60%, is that the number of people interviewed that they accept, or is that the number accepted that ALSO attend their school? Does that make sense or should I wait until I am more awake to state this question? 🙂

I believe it is the total number accepted, as opposed to the number accepted who also matriculated. Hope that helps!
