Interviewed but not accepted?

For those of you who have either interviewed this cycle or in previous, were there places you received interviews but were not offered admissions? If so, why (if you were told)?

I interviewed at UF and was told in my "postmortum" that my interview sucked. It probably did. I had extennuating family circumstances and hand't slept in a week. I'm hoping to get a second chance this year.

Was told I needed to send in more letters of recommendation from veterinarians.

I had to get more experience in LA and preferably some research too. 1 out of 2 isn't bad 🙂

Yep, last year. They said I was lacking SA clinical experience - both quantity and depth. Since then I've been working FT as a vet tech, so hopefully that fixes the problem!

They told me to learn more about the veterinary profession, like things veterinarians can do other than clinical and research. I also need to have more LA experience since I don't have any.

My story's pretty similar to everyone else's. I was told last year to increase the breadth of my experience (I had a LOT of shelter work, but needed some small animal clinical/specialty/large animal), to get some biomedical research experience if possible, and to try and improve my speaking skills for my interview. I was pretty nervous last year, so that makes sense.

I had a horrible interview last year at Tufts and got put on the alternate list. I was told I needed clinical experience (I only had research experience last year) and that my interviewers didn't think I had enough passion.... which I guess was true since I was terrified during my interview. Anyway I refocused this past year and got a part time job at a small animal surgery clinic and started volunteering at a small shelter where I actually got a lot of experience. I also practiced answering questions and trying to give specific examples to show my passion. The good news is when I told my interviewers this year what my previous interviewers had said they were surprised. They said, "What? I don't see that at all. Who interviewed you last year?" They were so funny and supportive so it makes me a lot more hopeful this year.
