Interviewed with low stats.. How and why?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Don't ask questions. Just accept it 😀
That's definitely what I'm doing.. But it just makes me skeptical. Why would they want to interview me? I'm extremely grateful and honored but I'm confused

Stats aren't everything. My DAT is WAY lower than the typical incoming average at Baylor but they accepted me.
Plus it's just an average. I made an 18 DAT but i know people that got accepted with a 25 DAT. It's just how averages work.

I am a minority. And my DAT was a typo. It's actually a DAT16 PAT19

ah thats fine, i just wanted to know because i am kind of in your same boat, but i havent got any interviews yet haha

good luck at your interview though!

because they saw something in your application they liked, stats are not everything. Maybe one of your LOR's was outstanding and it intrigued them???

I received an interview invite from a school and all of my stats are below their average.. Can anyone explain why and how??

The reason is probably because they want to lower the GPA average so that its around the national average of 3.5. There is more than enough 4.0 GPA applicants to fill the total amount of seats in each dental school, but they wouldn't do that.

Maybe, but how would that benefit the school?

I said it's probably the reason, not for sure. It would just make sense that if they wanted to publish a certain GPA for their incoming students, then they would need a range of accepted GPAs from low to high to maintain the average.

If they gave you an interview, they basically have deemed you to be academically competent. Basically, once your GPA and DAT exceed a certain threshold, there will be little to no correlation between your numbers and your ability to succeed in dental school. That is when your activities and everything else matters.

As others have said, just be thankful that they took a holistic at you. I just finished my first D1 semester at Pitt and still waiting for them to figure out I'm not supposed to be here.
