Hi everyone! I’m an aspiring pre-dental student, and I have an exciting opportunity to interview a successful oral surgeon who graduated top of his class from Harvard and has several research publications to his name. I’ve prepared a few questions, but I’d love to hear any insightful or unique questions you think would be valuable to ask him.
Are there any specific topics you’d be interested in hearing his perspective on, whether it’s about the journey to oral surgery, challenges he faced, or advice for future dental professionals?
I’ll be posting the interview video next week—looking forward to sharing it with you all!
Some sample questions I’ve prepared:
1) What drove you to go into oral surgery as a career?
2) How long did you have to go to school in order to become an oral surgeon?
3) I know the past to becoming an oral surgeon is long and demanding. If you don’t mind me asking, how did you manage financially during your studies?
- Were there ways you found to support yourself or make ends meet while still focusing on your education and training?
4) Do you have any piece of advice that you learned along your path?
5) Looking back on your journey, is there any advice or insight you gained along the way that you think would be helpful for aspiring dental students with those considering oral surgery?
6) What qualities do you think are most important for someone pursuing oral surgery? Are there any particular skills or experiences that set successful oral surgery residents apart?
7) How did you manage to balance your personal life with the demands of dental school and residency?
8) If you could go back, is there anything you would have done differently in terms of your education, training, or career path?
9) How important was mentorship in your journey?
- How do you find mentors or supportive colleagues in oral surgery?
- Do you have any advice on building a network in the field, especially as a student?
