Hi everyone!

I am scheduled to do an extern rotation in NYC from 10/21 to 11/18 when interview season will be kicking off. Unfortunately there were no available spots at this program earlier in the fall. I was wondering what to do if an interview comes up that conflicts with this time (if I need to miss a day or two on this rotation). I am very interested in the NYC program and am looking forward to my rotation, but do not want to offend anybody if I need to leave for an interview. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Are programs generally understanding about this?

Thanks for your input!

dear rumshaker,

sorry for the delay in response, but i do think there is a way to use this to your advantage. however, for the record, to all of those folks who will be applying to ophtho next year, i do believe november is a little late to schedule a rotation. but this is a program that rumshaker is really interested in and crap happens and you don't always get what you want, when you need it. so rumshaker, work hard during this rotation. be honest at the beginning and tell them you have some interviews coming up (you will have interviews during the first and 2nd weeks of novemeber) and you will have to miss some days, when you come back and they ask you so, "how did you like nebraska or ohio or wherever it is you went?" you reply, "well it was good, but i think this program is a better match for me because of x,y and z." just my thoughts, when life hands you lemons, make lemonade.
Good luck!
