hi all
i have been to upenn interview and boston, rejected,i really dont know why they call so many when they have only a few seats to offer, they can shortlist those whose applications are good enough for their colleges and call only those for intervuiew if they are looking for the sanity of the applications, then depending on whether they are interested to join call the others in their list. This way it will save the time and money of the candidates who are called.i am really angry with what the universities are doing especially upenn. What are your comments on this?

Sorry to hear of your rejection... I guess it is hard to predict what the admissions committee are thinking. As someone in this thread had pointed out before, I have a feeling that all they are interested is the revenue the program could generate (from the accepted students and those wishing to be admitted...). Did you apply to any other schools? I hope you get better answers from them at least! Well, if you didn't get in this year, there will always be next year, right? Don't lose heart!

For the benefit of the others, do you mind sharing with us (briefly) how your interviews went? What did they want to know? And how were your credentials like? Could you kindly tell us your personal experience and drop us any tips?

Thanks, and keep re-applying!

Take care

hi mighty molar
i got only 85 percentile in part1,do u have any idea if i should retake it,my gpa is 3.88,i applied only to boston and upennand very late that too.they askee me the usual stuff only my hobbies, about myself so on...

Well, there is no right or wrong answer to that question: "should I retake the Part 1 to improve my chances?" I guess only you would know the right answer! Sorry, but the only person who knows whether you would do better is YOU. If you believe you can improve your score by sitting it again, then go for it. If you think you will simply waste your time sitting and worrying about it then why bother?

The advanced standing committee wants to hear what kind of person you are as well as what kind of dentist you are/were. If you can prove that you have what it takes (ie. having the minimum scores for Part 1, GPA, TOEFL) then they would want to find more about you as a future colleague. "Is this person worth taking on to our program?" You need to be unique amongst the sea of other applicants, don't get bogged down on your numbers game (of Part 1 etc..) because they know that those number can improve by sitting the exam multiple times. But they know that an interview will reveal far more about a particular applicant.

So good luck with your decision to succeed. All the best!
