For those who are not doing "courtesy" interviews at a program they're doing a rotation at....

How many programs have offered you OR privileges at their program if you will be in town for a few days before/after your interview? The only program that has extended this offer to me was Scott & White in Temple, TX. If I had been able to stay for a few more days, I'd have taken them up on this offer.

Any others programs have OR privilege offers when they send interview invitations?

Just curious.

Pretty much any program will allow you to shadow in the OR *IF* you give them enough notice (one week should suffice). If they tell you it wouldn't be a good idea, be worried. Very worried.

Virginia Mason's "interview" is a day with one of their surgical teams - rounds, OR, clinic - whatever is on the schedule.

that sounds like a great idea. you get to really see how things are, they get to see you work a bit, much better than the stilted formal interview setting!

Several programs also invited me to attend Grand Rounds and conferences during my interview day, as well as time in the OR if I am interested.
