How common is it to get interviews for pharmacy school? Do the majority of applicants get one? (Namely, for the schools in California)

Post-interview day at Touro, we were told they had over 5000 applicants and invited 500 to interview. They said that school is receiving more applicants than before. In terms of how common.... I believe it is incredibly easy to get an interview. I received interviews like a week after submitting the supplemental. I wouldn't say the majority gets one but if your GPA is high you can expect an interview invite quickly. Again, this is my perception but I imagine GPA has to be the key criteria in CA school interview offers.

Not common and no.

In most cases yes it is common at schools that are not up to par to say the least. More competitive schools are not common at all and actually sift through applicants who do not meet requirements

I don't think the majority of applicants receive an interview. I think if you meet the minimum PCAT and GPA requirements of schools in addition to having great LORs, an exceptional personal statement, and involvement in extracurricular activities then you'll most likely land an interview. Although there are other circumstances where interviews are offered to many students who have decent PCAT/GPA and it's mainly due to other parts of their application that happened to capture the Adcom's attention and interest. Many schools have their own screening process. Some seek out applicants who have met the PCAT/GPA requirements where as others schools may look past a few subpar grades, taking into account other characteristics of the application. And even though each school has their minimum requirements, the more competitive schools prefer applicants to be above the minimum. Good luck with everything!

I don't think you should concern yourself with the proportion of applicants that get an interview. You don't have a good idea of where you stand among that pool, but you probably have a good grasp of whether your stats make you look like someone worth interviewing. Like FarmD12 mentioned, it's really up to what your application looks like.

I think if you have the right stats that ALOT of doors open..seeing the same applicants at different interviews makes me feel like this is true.
