Hey!
Okay so my aadsas app went out on Friday but I was just wondering if dental schools ever offer interviews on the weekend?
.What if you can't make it on Saturday? Would they be willing to grant you a reschedule?
It would depend on the school I suppose. Some schools allow you to choose a date within a specific timeline while others just mail you your interview packet with the date they chose. I'm sure if you couldn't make it on that day they would try to accommodate you on a day you would be available. After all, they are the ones who want to interview you.
Yes the schools completely change the hours that their employees work and even make students come to class on the weekend during interview season so that those who come for interviews won't have to miss a day of class or work or be inconvenienced in any way.........really? I'm waiting for someone to start a thread asking if dental schools ever like an applicant so much that they'll pay to fly him/her out to the school and pay for hotel and a daily food stipend for the interview.
UNC has 4 interview days, 3 pre december and 1 post december. Each interview is held on a Saturday. Period.
Not a strong case for a lawsuit. They cant offer only saturday interviews, or they would get sued for discrimination, nor can any school mandate you come on a saturday.
Not a strong case for a lawsuit.
Jewish people and seventh day adventists would be unable to interview on a saturday. If they only offered saturday dates they would get sued in class action for a fortune.
Indy will give you a hand full of lists and you'll have to rank them according to your desire. If you can't make it, I'd be 100$ that 100 more students would love to be there and would! What if you can't make it on Saturday? Would they be willing to grant you a reschedule?
I mean it's still your choice to go or not. No one is forcing you. A Jewish student last year had to reschedule so they bumped her to the next month. It's how they have always done it.They cant offer only saturday interviews, or they would get sued for discrimination, nor can any school mandate you come on a saturday.

Nope, the just bumped her to the Saturday in October. September's interview last year interfered with Yom Kippur or Rosh Hashanah. I'm not Jewish, so I may be a little naive to the situation, but is it such a terrible thing to miss one Sabbath (or Saturday) to attend a Dental School interview? Regardless, it's a personal choice, no one is forcing the student to choose one or the other. If they choose to bypass the interview because of a strict religious practice, then chalk it up to another religious sacrifice. Pun intended.Oh do they have non-saturday interview dates as well? that would make more sense.
Cry me a river. Everything is discrimination these days. Take it or leave it.They cant offer only saturday interviews, or they would get sued for discrimination, nor can any school mandate you come on a saturday.

There's a D-3 or D-4 UNC student on here who offers some good insight, maybe they can shed some light on the situation.Im pretty positive that a religious jew or Seventh day adventist cannot and would not miss any sabbath for any reason whatsoever. I live in NY so i get exposed to alot of the jewish customs and i can say with some degree of certainty that they wouldnt miss one. That being said a public school such as UNC (or any state school) cannot force someone to attend or only offer them an interview date that interferes with their religion, regardless of what the religion is. While everything is a lawsuit in this country lol and most of them are frivolous, i would love to be the one actually doing the suing. Its a class action lock to win that suit.
You're missing the point. UNC is not forcing anything. Interviews are offers to tour and interview at the school. If you don't want to attend due to other obligations, let the next applicant attend.Im pretty positive that a religious jew or Seventh day adventist cannot and would not miss any sabbath for any reason whatsoever. LOL you are missing the point. If you were working a job and they told you that you have to work on saturdays or you were fired and its your choice. they would get sued. It has happened so many times already just google it.

but one example.
Whether or not you agree with it is irrelevant, either the schools are making allowances for people who cannot make it on saturday's or they would get thier butts sued off.
What are you talking about now? Now you're stating jobs?
"That being said a public school such as UNC (or any state school) cannot force someone to attend or only offer them an interview date that interferes with their religion, regardless of what the religion is."
That is a far cry from stating a job. You're comparing apples and oranges!
They are both protected under the same civil right act taht prevents someone from being given an equal opportunity because of religious purposes. Some of you have to have lawyer friends, ask them about this im 99% sure its illegal.
If it were illegal I'm sure UNC would have been sued a long long time ago.
