Hey guys,

I was just wondering if anyone's gotten interviews and if so for which schools so far. I applied to SUNY, ICO, and NOVA earlier in the summer. But when I called them they said it takes 3-4 weeks to process applications and they probably wouldnt start reviewing until early September (thats what ICO and SUNY said). So I was just curious where people have gotten interviews at so far. Im waiting so anxiously and REALLY want to start hearing some feedback from the schools. How long is this process usually supposed to take?
 
unrelated, but how do schools contact you say to set up an interview, is it a telephone call, email, letter in the mail? i mean if they call are you supposed to just agree to any date they give you?
 
I applied to SCO and MCO so far. I got offered my interview at SCO like 2 weeks after I turned in my app.

They sent me an email offering me the interview and they also sent me a letter in the mail along with a DVD about the school. I had to call the receptionist to set up the time. They gave me like 4 dates to choose from and there was a ton of time slots for each day.

2 weeks after you turned in your app or 2 weeks after ur application was complete, or was everything sent in the same envelope, i have all my transcripts, scores, LOR being sent all separately, chaotic
 
2 weeks after i turned it in...they had everything but my transcripts and one LOR when i submitted my app. he emailed me the day after i submitted and said as soon as they got the transcripts they would invite me for the interview. i got my invite the day they got my transcripts, but they still hadn't received my LOR.

anyone heard anything from ICO...have they began interviewing?
 
I have interview requests from UAB and SCO.
 
Has anyone heard from NOVA?? they got my app. like a week and a half ago??? I know that's not very long but I'm just curious if anyone else had heard anything.

Seems like alot of people apply to NOVA, is it one of the better schools in the south?

Depends on who you ask. 20 people left the class of 2011 this past year, so... you do the math. (NOT trying to start another flame war. Just stating facts. Check out the failure/dropout rate thread.) I think a big reason is because it's near the beach. 😀
 
Why did so many people leave NOVA? any opinions? I got an interview at ICO for the end of the month.

Search for the failure/dropout rate thread. I think most of them failed out - Fonz, can you confirm?
 
I talked to my optometrist who said pretty much all the optometry schools are perfectly fine, but the only school that she hears stuff about... I cut her off and we both said nova at the same time. Seriously what is up with that school. Even in these forums it's brought up kind of sketchy sometimes. I talked to a different optometrist who had a similar feeling and recommended going to a different school if i got into more than nova (he didnt know i wasnt planning on applying there anyways). Is it just a general consensus among optometrists and students that nova is a little more out there than the rest of the OD schools. Someone said 20 students failed out. That seems to me they're not admitting the most capable class possible. I mean no matter what students will leave the class due to random reasons sometimes not even academic reasons, but how do you justify 20. A beach is near by. Please.
 
I got an interview to SCO and I have it on Friday. I'm flying up there and I'm super excited. I would agree with the last posters about Nova which is the other school I applied to. All of my app stuff was turned in about 2 weeks ago and I did the online app on Aug 15th but havent heard back yet... I'm much more optimistic about SCO. I took a tour about a month ago and it was awesome! They emailed me and sent the letter with the DVD like the other student. Hey JMU07, where are you in the DVD? I watched it so just tell me where you were.
 
I interviewed at IU about a month ago (Aug. 6th) and I just got my acceptance letter today!

I just had an interview at OSU on Monday. They said they'll let me know within a week or so the results (Yes, No, a Hold). Hopefully I will get a "yes" and not have to worry about the other schools I've applied to. I have applications submitted for PCO and SCO as well and am waiting to here back from them.

Hey, I haven't seen it yet (but I REALLY want to! I'll probably snag a copy out of admissions later) but I'm wearing a shirt that's like, a few shades of brown and I'm in a scene where someone's putting a phoropter over my face. I was also filmed during a financial aid session, shopping in the bookstore and hanging out on a sofa but I'm not sure what got into the DVD. Once I watch it I'll be able to be a little more specific 😀
 
I applied to ICO, NOVA, and SUNY..around the time the applications started for each school. I just wrote my OAT August 27th though, I called the schools and they have my scores. But, I havent heard anything back yet. Should I be worried?

I got an interview today for Nova. Probably gonna go on sept 26th afternoon session
 
Hey congrats baophan5! I too got an interview for NOVA today, and I think I'm actually going to choose that date and time as well..I actually emailed Fran back saying I wanted to come that date but I'm still going to call and confirm..hopefully I'll see you there!!!

I have 3.66 GPA (UF-Nutrition Major)..340AA 350 TS...I worked in an optical as a pre-tester for a semester..my other extra-curriculars are through church services..
 
To the post above,

when did you apply to ICO and when did you hear from them?...as in when did they most likely get all your materials?...I am still waiting to hear back from ICO. I have an interview at SCO set up.
 
Got my ICO interview invite yesterday. I turned in my app. about 3 weeks ago and sent in my letters and transcripts about a week or two ago.

I had sent my rec letters, transcript, and oat scores earlier in the summer (probably around July). I sent the application a couple of weeks ago, and received the interview invitation yesterday. I still haven't written the essay yet, but I will email that later.

Im senting in my application on monday for nova and Ico....
im so excited....
hopefully, I will get an interview in october!?!
after that 6 more to go!!!

When is your interview at SCO? Mine's in 2 days...on Monday. Good luck!
 
good luck fullfinksi, i had Dr. Parkanski as the Dr. who interviewed me at SCO yesterday. DEF be prepared to discuss everything and them some. it is kinda laid back but they'll get you with some questions; if you dont know, just talk about something related that shows you do know something and nothing at all. best of luck i hope to hear back really soon so i can be done!

thanks for the advice seminolefish!! I am pretty nervous about the interview. Do you think I should prepare for questions that aren't optometry related??
 
not really... you just have to show them that you indeed want to be an optometrist with all of your heart being 100% committed. you should enjoy the overall process. i scheduled mine at 10 am and i ended up doing everything except housing before the interview. i did the interview at around 12:30 and i was hungry! eat a good breakfast and then eat some cookies up on the 11th floor. 🙂

Haha, thanks. I'll keep that in mind. Mine is at 10:15am, as well. I didn't think they scheduled in time for lunch. Cookies will have to do. 🙂
 
When I called and spoke with Nancy Harris in the admissions office to schedule my interview, she was telling me about the whole process, with the tour, the financial counseling, the academic review, and the interview. I don't remember which part it was included with, but I thought she mentioned something about lunch--but seminolefish, I'm guessing there was no lunch involved?

seminole - I might have met you!! I got on the elevator Friday and there were a group of interviewees in there that I and another student chatted with. I was wearing white shorts and I think a purple shirt. 🙂

Also, for the others interviewing at SCO - definitely eat lunch at the cafeteria. The food is DELICIOUS and I'm sure it will automatically make you guys want to come here! 😀

congrats! when did you turn in your application? i turned mine in july 1st and still haven't heard anything from them...i'm starting to get worried. how long did it take them to get in touch with you?
 
we did walk in the cafeteria on the tour but they never said we could eat there...i guess asking wouldve helped that.
 
I just got really bad news from ICO today 🙁 They said that they are unsure and want to do a second review later in January. Am I the first one to be rejected this year ? This feels SO depressing, I thought I would get an interview. Since this is the first school Ive heard from I feel like I am going to get the same response everywhere else...

ICO is the only school i've applied to so far, about two weeks ago; i got a solid OAT score but my gpa is low and i'm beyond anxious right now..do u mind telling me ur stats; thanks
