I think it would be interesting to see where everyone is getting interviews, just to get an idea of where different schools are in the process.

I'll start... hopefully others will follow...

Submitted CAS: August 17th
Interviews: Wake Forest, Medical College of Virginia

Hey guys! I just discovered this board today... it is way more informative than talking to people at my school.... I am also applying for neuro this year so maybe I will see you on the trail.

I didn't really know which schools were good or not so I just applied to a bunch of schools in places I want to live.

So far:

UC Irvine,
Miami
U Ill at Chicago
and Tulane

have offered me an interview.

Does anybody know anything about Miami? I know this was in a previous post but no one had an answer? Cool city, and a large faculty with research funding, but wasn't in any of the previous discussions.

Also, what do people think of UC Irvine and U Ill at Chicago?

Thanks in advance for your replies

congrats on your interviews....will post mine as i get them(hopefully) 🙂
i think it would also be helpful to post feedback about interviews and programs as the season progresses....good luck!

hey scared sh*tless

looks like miami and irvine are getting those interviews out quickly...

i got miami in early oct (please let there be no hurricane).. and irvine in nov..

good luck everyone..

Hey there,

My application was entered into the system on Sept. 2nd, so no news yet.... for those of you who started hearing back from programs, did it really take 3-4 weeks from the time you sent out your applications?

I'll definitely post once I start hearing things....

Good luck, everyone!
:luck:

hey, got CAS in Aug 15th. Offered interviews at Cleveland Clinic, Hopkins, and Hahnemann thus far. I am interested to take a look at these other programs because I really like Hahnemanns program and will really need a strong impression elsewhere to make me rank another program #1.

congrats you all.

i hope we all have a good interview season, and the match hasnt bacome as horifiengly competetive as the evil websites claim it to be.

For real? Have you heard the neuro match is competitive? I have heard it is pretty chill. It seems like there's lots of spots... not like derm or ent.

Thanks for all the feedback guys...

Dude it took just under 3 weeks before I got the first interview so I wouldn't hold your breath until the 20th or so... but don't let those who are getting interviews stress you out... from what I can tell a lot of programs don't even start intervieweing until november and they interview until the week before the rank lists are in...

When is Hopkins interviewing?

I had a weird dream last night where I found out that I matched at Hopkins. It was odd, because I hadn't interviewed there yet, but they had decided to rank people without interviewing.

I was shocked, and I kept thinking "I don't want to live in Baltimore again!" (I did undergrad there). But it was too late, I was committed to Johnny Hop...

Just got a letter from Mayo clinic in rochester today. I think I will interview on Dec 6th. Hopkins is in Nov.

I've gotten interviews at U of Illinois @ Chicago, Wake Forest, Brown, and Tulane. Also one at Virginia Commonwealth, but I don't think I'll go to that interview. My interviews range in dates from Oct to Nov... I'm holding my breath for interviews at other programs hopefully in Dec.

CAS sent out my documents on 9/16

Here's what I have so far:

October: JFK, SUNY Albany, SUNY Buffalo
November: SUNY Downstate, Dartmouth, LIJ
December: UMass

Still waiting to hear from the bulk of my programs... fingers crossed 🙂

Submitted CAS August 31st. So far granted interviews from Cleveland Clinic, Iowa, Pitt, Colorado, and Northwestern.

Update on my interviews so far:

Wake Forest
Medical College of VA (VCU)
U. of Maryland
U. of Virginia
Yale
U. of Connecticut

I interviewed at UMiami last year. I went to undergrad there, thought I would be there. If you like big and being able to walk from building to building even in rain, go ahead....they have a nice neuro floor which is combined with neurosurg in the Neuro ICU. There's always people walking around all the time, it's a very busy place. THe director is very nice, he wrote a huge book called The Office Practice of Neurology (I think). Dr. Bradley.

Anyway, I matched at JFK in NJ if anyone has any questions.

add u of rochester to my list. rejected from yale.

Submitted CAS:Sep 8

got first 3 today--Wake Forest,UMDNJ and Univ Ill Chicago

Wake Forest emailed, UMDNJ called me and UIC sent snail mail...
anxiously awaiting more.... 🙂

hey all, why dont we just each keep editing/adding to one post in here as
we get more interviews? better than 15+ posts per person eh? anyway, no big deal, but thats what ill do.

CAS got my stuff on 9/15, distributed it on 9/25

interviews so far:

Tufts (e-mail)
Rush/Presby/St.Luke's (letter with CAS confirmation letter)

Hi guys. Thanks all for your inputs..My calls so far..

1) univ of iowa
2) drexel/hanneman
3) darmouth
4) Boston U
5) UTMB galveston
6)Baylor
7) MCW Milwaukee
Rejections:
Yale

Please can some one shed lights on these places...I have limited knowledge as I am an IMG. Thanks in advance

I can only really comment on Hahnemann. This program is excellent. You will come out of this program with better clinical training in neurology than probably any other program in the country! You meet with the chairman every day for 2 hours 6 days a week and there is an emphesis on classical neurological training which bar none excellent. You really learn how to dissect a neurological case and there is plenty of opportunity for research. The program is not as diverse in all subspecialties like mayo, cleveland clinic, or U of Rochester, but they are very strong in stoke, critical care, neuromuscular, and Pain. The chairman is one of the leading experts in CRPS. Good luck with interviews.

add uc davis, loma linda, boston u

Isn't it horrible to get a mailbox full of letters from programs, only to open the letters and find the generic "application received" form??? 😡

Tell me about it.....sorry to be anal, but could you guys tell us if programs always sent you interview letters with the 'application recieved' letter or did it come later? hmmm gotta stop checking my email every 10 minutes!

They are always separate. I didn't receive the "application received" letter from 4 out the 5 programs I currently have interviews with. I just received an email (UPenn, WashU), a telephone call (Minnesota), or a letter (URochester). The 5th program (Brown) sent a letter acknowledging my application about a week before they called me.

Now I have a fair number of application received letters on my desk, and I am waiting to hear from them "before the end of November". Some are much cooler about it than others. Like BIDMC, for example. I have nothing but respect for the program, but they handle this poorly. They just say "If you have not heard from us by the end of November, we are unable to offer you an interview." Sorry, but that is just lame.

that's just not true, I got my usual CAS thingie from Rush today, and a note on it which said "see attached". they included an invite letter with dates/info....

i wouldve preferred it if they had e-mailed though

heh no worries, i didn't expect an invite in that form either...

So, maybe it's fair to say that if we get the CAS letter back from, for example, Rush, without an interview invite, then it could be safe to assume that we won't be invited to an interview. Probably not 100% accurate (what is?) but might be useful.

Hey fellow same-generation neurologists....

wrt CAS letter receipt without interview invitation signifying low probability of interview... I'm not so sure b/c some programs do send out those CAS forms and really don't start looking at the applications until now. But I really suspect there is no rule... some programs may be blowing you off and others may genuinely be needing some 'alone time' to think things over.

Mount Sinai definately blew me off though: "we will let you know about an interview after 12/31" Oh gee thanks for letting me know if I have an interview halfway across the country like one week before my rank list is due. What is up with that? 😡 Apologies to all MSSM peeps, but that blows.

wrt interviews:
Add

RUSH
NWU
Columbia
NYU

Anxiously awaiting UCLA! Anyone hear from them?

Good luck everyone!

Has anyone gotten invites from programs in Manhattan? I've gotten a few in Brooklyn/Long Island but nothing in Manhattan yet. Are these programs notorious for sending out invites later than other programs?

blah, im jealous of you guys. i seem to be getting many of those CAS forms in the mail with the line checked off/filled in saying "a decision will be made by", Nov 4th or so. anyone else getting a bunch of these? i even have them from less competitive programs than the ones i already got interviews for..hmm but maybe i'm not a top choice for them and they want to see my Deans letter, arg... they did seem to get my app on sept 28th(late) so i suppose i should just wait. only heard from tufts, rush, and brown so far(out of 20)...
good luck everyone

Yah I got a bunch of these too.. and like you, I got blown off by some of the less competitve programs I've applied too... But maybe it's like asking the ugly girl/boy out... maybe they can tell that you're not really as interested and don't want to put you in top priority.

Prorams that gave me CAS form blow-off:

-Georgetown
-Mt. Sinai (expect to hear from us on 12/31!)
-Duke
-UCSD

I say, It's still early in the process and I think neuro is one field where there are a lot of places I wouldn't mind matching at.

Hey: NOBODY has offered to pay for my stay except for Tulane (thanks.. I already LIVE in new orleans)... is it possible that the programs make offers of lodging to the most qualified applicants? 😕
