Interviews

funny story..

today was my first day of cardiology.. and while waiting for the elevator.. i noticed an interviwee for the USC neurophysiology fellowship.. small talk ensues.. and he asks me if i'm interviewing at UC irvine.. i told him i was probably going to cancel my interview because i already had so many interviews.. and i felt UC Irvine was just redundant.. to make a long story short.. i find out later the guy was their chief neuro resident.. 😱

woo hoo.. what way to burn a bridge..

oh yeah.. cancelled my UC Irvine interview 😛

Got UCSF today! (with hotel). I'm 26 for 26 with Cornell left to hear from. Yeah, I know...applied to way too many programs. I guess I was playing it safe when I submitted the app but it's looking like it was a waste of money since I am having severe problems scheduling even half these invites.
My December is jam packed and programs appear to hate it when we try to reschedule.

How are people handling scheduling? Are you holding out till you hear from most programs, and then contacting all of them en masse with your requested interview times? Or do you have to grab interviews quick when they are offered, risking possibly using up dates that other programs might offer later?

Today's new Interview(s): UCSD, UCSF 😀

Past Interview Requests: UMinnesota, WashU, Brown, UPenn, URochester, UMichigan, UArizona, Johns Hopkins, Emory, Mayo, Yale, Duke, Stanford, Harvard/MGH, Harvard/BIDMC, UWashington

Rejections: None Yet

Waiting to Hear: UCLA. What is the deal here?

I'm 18/18 so far...

heard from some more: invited UCSD, rejected: Northwestern(?, guess they figured I wasnt goin gto go there anyway)

Invites total: Tufts, Sinai, Yale, Rush, U Wisconsin, U Michigan, Duke, UNC, OregonHSU, U Washington, Brown, BU, UCSD

rejected: Stanford, Northwestern

waiting on 6 (2 of which I'm interested in at this point). applied to too many.

one interview so far.. will post impressions in a few weeks, to remain a bit anonymous.

scm

Yeah I was rejected from Northwestern too. It's hard to figure out a program's selection criteria, a lot of it just seems very arbitrary. I called Tufts to ask about my application and the secretary said they just started reviewing applications last Tuesday?! I know a lot of people heard from them a long while ago.....it's just annoying that some programs won't let you know-at least when I called BU, they said straight out that I won't get an interview. It was appreciated b/c it just makes things easier to plan and schedule. 😡
okay, my rant for the day is over.... 😀

My application was sent really late because of one reference letter. Thank goodness it seems to have arrived at most programs on Nov 1. I've got 2 invites so far but I actually know very little about both programs:

UCDavis, Albert Einstein CoM.

Do you guys know about them? How does UCDavis fare in the lights of almighty UCSF/UCLA?
Is it really dangerous to live in Bronx???
🙂

already went to miami.. really liked their program.. much more than i thought i would have..
Could you elaborate as to what you liked about u of miami?
Also has anyone interviewed at rochester or maryland, what do you think of these programs?

Hey there,

Has anyone heard from Drexel or Thomas Jefferson in PA? I never received that mailer back from them and I can't seem to get a hold of anyone on the phone... just wondering if they've started interviewing already as they're two of the last programs that have yet to hand me a verdict 🙂

Thanks!!

has anyone heard from UCSF?
anyone still waiting to hear?
anyone interviewed there yet?

tufts had problems with the SF match.. apparently my application was sent somewhere else.. but now it's rectified..

got an interview at tufts in dec 😀

BU likes IMGs, but since it is so research driven and since by the end of residency you ll publish in NEJM and Neurology they want some research skills

Are you being sarcastic or are you implying that BU is such a research powerhouse that each resident should expect a publication in the NEJM during residency?

If you are serious, can you present some supporting data, because this I gotta see to believe.

I noticed this same thing. It does seem a touch far-fetched.

Einstein's neighborhood is a tad sketchy but the program is definitely worth looking at. Overall solid program, very good clinically, probably below Columbia and Cornell but above NYU and Mt. Sinai in terms of NY programs.

Hey guys! I just discovered this board today... it is way more informative than talking to people at my school.... I am also applying for neuro this year so maybe I will see you on the trail.

I didn't really know which schools were good or not so I just applied to a bunch of schools in places I want to live.

So far:

UC Irvine,
Miami
U Ill at Chicago
and Tulane

have offered me an interview.

Does anybody know anything about Miami? I know this was in a previous post but no one had an answer? Cool city, and a large faculty with research funding, but wasn't in any of the previous discussions.

Also, what do people think of UC Irvine and U Ill at Chicago?

Thanks in advance for your replies

might want to scratch Tulane, is it still there?
