I know there's already the Read Before You Interview thread, but I wanted to get some modern opinions/impressions of interviews. Especially what types of questions people think they'll be asking this year. What are today's hot button topics and stuff like that. For those of you that have already interviewed, please share what you can (though I understand if you signed something saying you wouldn't). For those of you who haven't and are preparing share your worries, concerns, ideas, methods, etc.

If you search a page or two back, I think there's already a thread or two on 2011 topics/current events that might have some ideas for the top button topics.

If you're asking about your CSU interview for the dual degree program, I don't think you need to worry about current events and such all that much. I mean, it couldn't hurt to be well prepared, but I think it would be overkill to do much more than look over interview feedbacks (which by the way are current and modern as you call it). You're already in the DVM program so they're not going to take that away from you just because you sound like a bonehead during the interview. I would imagine that at this point, they only really care about the PhD part... and if you've gotten an interview I'm guessing you already have a compelling reason for a veterinary research career. More than anything else, being able to explain that will probably be the most important thing.

But if you must, there are tons of threads about this from this year and last years if you do a search.

Yeah, I echo Minnerbelle here - the Ph.D. interviews I've been on have mostly been to feel out my research interests and make sure I'm knowledgeable about what it means to be a researcher/scientist/PI. It should also be a time for you to talk with faculty members and graduate students about different labs - it's one thing to be interested in the research that comes out of a lab, but the lab atmosphere, expectations as a grad student and the way it's run are definitely equally important if you're going to pursue a graduate degree there. So you want to make sure you find somewhere you might "fit in" as well.

Honestly, a Ph.D. interview is as much you interviewing them as it is them interviewing you.
