Hey all, do any of you do intra op EMG monitoring? If so, where did you get experience? Is it worth financially trying to develop expertise in this? Would really appreciate some thoughts on this issue.

Ok - would you mind elaborating a little bit on your answer? What are the cons of doing so?

It is not the purview of PMR. There is a target on your back if you perform these services. There are a lot of shady companies offering to assist and use docs to sign off on charts. At least one doc in jail for this.

It seems like a useful service to provide to a high quality neurosurgical team. I doubt that there are many places you could go to get enough of a case load with a good structure in place to make it lucrative. I’ve known some EMG trained docs who do it...and they think that they bring value to the business. But I’m not sure it’s worth the investment in extra training.
