Do anesthesiologists do research in the area of evoked potential (auditory, visual, somatosensory) monitoring during surgery or is that outside the realm of their practice? Sorry, just wondering for future reference. Thanks.

You can do research in whatever you want. As long as you get published and get grant money.

Re: evoked potentials, i know that some of my attendings had done some research on that in the past.

up until recently anesthesia did all the sseps/meps/eegs intra-operatively until neurology took over... (at least that was the case at MGH until the early 90s)... you can do research on anything you want...

We still do the EEG's, but not the SSEP's or MEP's. Just too time and attention consuming for one person to do the SSEP's, MEP's, and the anesthetic.
