Intriguing Stuff: Paralyzed Man Regains Movement

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've seen something similar to this from my Clinical Application of A&P class. A paraplegic who had the same type of treatment was able to "walk" with assistance. However, it required tons of training and physical work for the patient, which is not surprising as SCIs are extremely difficult to recover from.

But this is very interesting stuff and should lead to some very awesome treatments for SCI patients.

Very interesting! I actually just had a patient who had a spinal stimulator after she had carpal tunnel surgery. I didn't learn much about it in school (or maybe I just don't remember if they mentioned it) so it's cool to read about this. The great thing is that research and technology is always growing and changing, so it's important for us to stay up to date on current information. Thanks for sharing!

Glad to share. I was pleased to see that the PI for the research was at the department of Integrated Biology and Physiology, and he was a PhD in Exercise Physiology. We need ppl like this(including ourselves and future DPTs, MDs and PhDs) to make scientific inroads to continue the upward trend of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
